Hey guys, I cook all the time but I have never tried protein bars at home. I am sure the are some good ones and some not so good ones.

Anybody run across a good one? My son is a Tier hockey player and trains 6 days a week. He is currently off season training for strength and size.

Maybe there is a good moderate calorie one for me and a "bring it on" recipe for him.

I have learned that recipes are pretty hit and miss when you just google them. If you have tried them that is a big plus.

There are some online if you do a google search, and most you can add whey isolate (or protein powder of choice) to the recipe. There are a good 10-20 that are listed out on some sites. They are all very simple to make and quick and require no baking on most.

What I've been doing is the following:

Powderize 1/2 cup of oats, then add 1 coop protein, 1 T PB (or coconut oil), 1T coconut flour, a smidgeon of liquid sweetener (or honey/Agave), a little vanilla extract (not always), and a small amount of almond milk (not measured, just enough to mix into a paste). Mix all that into a paste.

At this point, you can add small amounts of coconut flour if the batter is too runny or wet, or add other wet ingredients if too dry/flaky. You can also probably add in applesauce if needed.

I'm too lazy to form this into a bar, so I just scoop it into a small container and refrigerate it. The next day at work, I eat this as my pre-workout "bar" 1-2 hours prior to training. I eat it with a spoon. You can also form this into a ball, kind of like what people do with PB balls.

This is pretty damn good, and much cheaper that buying them. Also, you can make a bunch at one time, but I do the above as a single meal because I can tailor how much calories and macronutrients I want easier.

Up until this, I've been eating Fit Crunch bars (Robert Irvine's), but I'm not sure if it is the sugar alcohols or the fats (or both), but they have me super gassy. Now I did have my gallbladder removed a year ago, so my digestion probably isn't where it used to be, but I can't stand the gassy bloat feeling like I have to fart all damn day. The fit crunch bars are damn good though. I like the birthday cake one because the other chocolate/dark ones get all up in my teeth and I don't have time to pull out my toothbrush when slamming one down at work, lol.
