how to switch breathing..??

for the longest while i have been holding my breath during the explosive phase of the push movements and now i m starting to get some headaches and can feel the pressure build up in my head. I am trying to change my breathing so i can have breath out while pushing and breath in while doing the negatives but having a hard time maintaining the rythm. any tips :mox:

um you already said it...just breathe IN with the negative and breathe OUT when pushing the weight.

yes sir i know that. but i cant get used to it. I push and breath out, then i stop adn take a breath in.. and then do the negative. See the problem is i cant breath in on the negative adn ahve to pause seconds before it. But i guess in hindsight it was a pretty stupid question cause it seems like there aint nothing to it but to do it. Was just wondering if people had ne mental tricks..

when i first started out i was doing the same thing. The only advise i can give you is start with a lower weight and FORCE yourself to change it. after a while it will become habit.

You can't learn to control breathing better than your brain is already wired to. Trying to is wrong imo, just remember not to hold your breath to long. The Valsava effect will cause you to cease breathing for a few seconds during maximal lifts, this is to increase intra thoracic pressure to protect organs and spine from injury. Learn to allow your body to regulate breathing.

when lifting heavy it happens bro. if you are power lifting get used to the headaches but if bodybuilding is your desire then lighten it up a bit and get the 10-20 and build the muscle

i stand corrected :D

It's a big misconception. I have the advantage of working at the US Olympic Education and training facility. I get the chance to speak to and go to seminars with some of the very best Exercise Scientists in the country as well as on occasion converse with Olympic coaches. I find myself learning new shit all the time.

I was looking for some pictures of the weight and cardio area but couldn't find any online but here is the Superior dome part of the university and olympic facility. It's larger that the Silver and is like 5th or 6th largest in the country.
