Hubris. Its means extreme arrogance/pride. The word stems from Greek tragedies. Oedipus, the guy who had sex with his mom, was a HUGE example of hubris. Despite warnings and signs in his life, he truged onward toward his path to oblivion. And it cost him everything.
I think we are examples of hubris all too many times in the lifting realm. Aches, pains etc but do we always listen? "Eh, it'll go away." Or the famed, "If it doesnt kill me, it'll make me stronger." RRRrrright. *enter Dr. Evil voice*
Listen to the signs. Pay attention. Keep your eyes open. None of us are Terminators...although some may have that confidence. Confidence is a great tool to excel but hubris will cripple you...maybe even destroy you.
And feel free to apply this not only to lifting but just life. No, don't worry. I won't get all Mentzerian on you. I just feel there is an application since bodybuilding is a lifestyle we can apply lessons to our lives in principle.
