A couple years ago we were looking for a car for my wife, looking for good fuel economy cause she puts about 2k miles a month on a car, she was set on the hybrid Lexus until she drove a jetta TDI, not hybrid but turbo diesel, gets 35 around town and 45 on hwy, fully loaded for just under 30k. It has been a great car and is sporty enough for her.

my dad has a honda hybrid that gets like 50mpg and really seems to like it--but keep in mind he has a f350 diesel as well so he isnt a tree hugger

I am the kind of guy that will maintain a vehicle well and keep it a long time, and do reapairs and maintenance myself. I have a 2005 Ram 1500, for example, that now has 250,000 miles on it and looks and runs like new. There is no way I could do that with hybrid technology. The battery system and electronics are things that are out of sight expensive to maintain and highly specialized.

Exactly... But folks like you are a dying breed, most get new cars every 3-4years and the auto makers love them for it.

At work we have a Ford Fusion. It gets 33 in traffic. I'm not sure what it gets highway. Specs say combined is 39. Was not really that impressed. I could drive a Dodge Charger HO V6 and get close to that.

The hybrid driver's around here sure as hell don't get out of the way on the freeway....they are annoying. It's like they hold a grudge anybody passing them with horsepower and smogging the air.

lol

Those peeps are the ones that look in their rear view mirror and can read my front plate, which is about level with their back glass. They always move.

bro we send our techs to school every year for changes in the hybrid technologies never mind the "fuel econ" features that reduce cyl use while driving, shit gets more complicated all the time, the 2011 my gm's u dont even use a tech 2 anymore now u gotta use a labtop to work on them lol

hybrids are cool and all, but i never want to deal with the battery system. Everybody thinks they are being all green with their hybrid, but what does it take to build one and keep it running?

BSD gave a great example of what can be done without hybrid technology. Small, lightweight cars with an efficient engine will do just about as well as hybrids without the added headache.

However, if i never had to drive more than 15 miles at a time, an all electric would be pretty sweet.

My dad bought a used Prius for 900 bucks. The fuckin battery died, cost $2200! All in all he still made out pretty good, 3g's for a car that's getting 52mpg. He's not a tree hugger either, owns a vette, big block dragster, and some other muscle cars. Personally, I don't want one. I ride a motorcycle most of the time, gets 40 plus mpg.

I was hoping someone would make that point.

Haha, my commuter car is a Chevy Aveo, 1.5 hrs roundtrip to work was killing my truck. Now I get about 35mpg and I look stupid as shit driving it. People at work refer to me as Mr. Incredible. If you seen the movie, he is a big ass dude cramed in alittle car.
