Baby dead in bucket of vomit
A baby girl died after apparently falling into a bucket of her mother's vomit yesterday, cops said.
The mom found her 3-month-old daughter, Niah Ford, unconscious in the bucket yesterday afternoon in their room at Fox House, a shelter for women on E. 117th St. in East Harlem.
The 18-year-old mom said she left Niah with another resident when she went out for a drink Friday night, a source said.
She returned, took the baby back to her room and threw up in the bucket before falling asleep.
She found Niah in the container at 2:40 p.m., cops said.
The baby was rushed to Mount Sinai Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 4:10 p.m. Her body bore no signs of trauma.
A woman who answered the phone at the shelter last night declined to comment.
Cops were questioning the mother at the 25th Precinct, but she had not been charged last night.
The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
