I never thought I'd say it, but I'm finished power lifting. I'll be 61 in three months and my body just isn't responding or recovering like it did even four years ago.
My wrists hurt when I bench over 475. My back hurts so bad when I try to dead lift I don't even do them any more. And squats are making me shorter. Just kidding on that part, maybe. But I'm worthless all weekend I'd I hit legs on Friday or Saturday. All I can do is sleep afterwards for two days.
I never thought I'd say this but I'm switching to a more body building style of training.
I look great. I don't have to stuff my face intil.my gut literally hurts from distention. I can have a life outside the gym.
I'm old and I hurt in places I never used to hurt in ways that are not natural. I'm now officially a freakin wimp!

I will be 56 in February and I feel great. Okay I actually am hurting like you wrote as well and I'm younger and damn sure are not as strong as you are. But this aging aches & pains shit just sucks. I'm going to be screwed when I get your age, lol. Right now I am just blaming winter on the aches & pains, but my knees haven't hurt like this in a few years. I've got a couple doctor appts coming up so I'm waiting to be safe in case they draw bloodwork but I'm ready to stick some deca to help out.

Old-Power lifter=squat 600x1rep rest 5 minutes (heave ho, walls are spinning, wanting to puke)
New-Volume disciple= squat 185x10/ supersetted with straight legged deadlifts 125x10 no rest until 200 reps complete (jack city, no rest for the wicked, damsel eyes-a-shining at the Master of Action)
More flexibility, eased tendons, cardiac improvement=healthy
Any questions?

You suck! I signed up for a meet march 4 where is bench deadlift curl....you used to be my idol

Oh fuck
A pig just flew by, and satan is freezing...
What have you done?

Ever thought of adding kettlebelles into a routine? I'd bet ya they'd clear up that back pain.

I hurt really bad brother. And I watched a recent video of Ronnie Coleman the other day. While I've got close to twenty years on Ronnie all I could see was me with hip replacement, knee replacement, herniated discs, and the list goes on.
If it's any consolation to you my bench routine is pyramid up to 455. Then do 5 sets at 455. The first two or three sets are 8 reps, the next ones at 6 reps, but never any lower.
Squats pyramid up to 495 then hit 5 sets of 15 then as I tire down to 8 to 10 reps.
Does that still garner any respect? Where I work out there isn't anyone that can touch those numbers. Not sure about you northern guys that get snowbound and just train all day.

I'm working on something BB. Maybe I can restore us old cunts for one more go.

As long as it's cheap. All these women are draining my finances.

You couldn't pay me to do one rep maxes or anything close today. As a result I don't get hurt and feel pretty good. I'm a lot younger than you buf but I've been done.

We are about the same age but I never pushed my body like you did Buf. I have enough issues (lateral epicondylitis, arthritis of the knee, lower back arthrosis and more). It sucks getting/being old. I still workout, hardly take any breaks because doctors all told me to keep moving.

Ok don't exagg - you've got 9 years on Ronnie.

As for how you compare to others - I've personally only known one guy who could match those #'s, and he was an IFBB pro & in his mid 30's at the time, down in VA. I doubt there is anyone in the country, or maybe the world, that can match those #'s at your age. Sick. Just sick.

I remember a while back the doc put you on GH. Did that help with the arthritis and all?

Doc didn't put me on it, I put me on it. I hurt the whole four months I was on. But I was running only the gh. No aas with it. I wanted to see the effects. They were minimal except aching joints. But the last month I added deca and test c. A world of difference. But I can't run deca the rest of my life, however long that is; I don't think.

Those numbers won't last. I did last shot of deca last week. Now will taper down on test for the next two to three months. Then when I'm clean my rep ranges will be 3 to 5 at 455.

I think it is a smart decision, Buf. That said, you may come down in overall weight poundage, but you could set goals at higher reps with less weight.

...unless glyco comes up with some sort of mad scientist scheme like he mentioned earlier, lol.

5 sets of 15 reps at 495. un friggen real. hard core badass rep right there buff. But all your numbers are crazy good, sh*t!

Yea, I agree with frigg and everybody else...I haven't met too many, if any, guys who can lift what you do, at your ripe young age. It's just unreal!

Fishing been crazy wild lately.

A couple of my favorite fishing holes. One is my new secretary. Guess which one is her, first or second.

Ha! Easy, I'm a bottom feeder... it's catfish or nuthin'!
PS: I say #1, she's more wet!!

Couple things that helped me a few times whenall my joints were just trashed. I took time off of grappling and lightened up on all my weights and upped the reps and worked more on feeling the weights so as to not tax the joints. I stayed away from the big lifts and I stretched just about every day. One that seemed tore ally help and maybe not really seen as a stretch was to grab a smith machine bar hung at mid height (anything will do just for support) and go into a deep squat and just hang there.. and hang there and hang there over and over again. It stretched out the low back gluts, hips, knees all the things that really bother me. It took probably 4-6 months both times to recover but each time I was able tor return to heavy stuff on top of grappling for a long time. I'm giving it a shot again but maybe will work maybe not. It might be worth a try.

I didn't always have fuq toys like that so not sure how that's going to be on your old hips and low back.

Edit: forgot to add I was off during those periods where it worked.

Thanks glyco.
#1 is my secretary. She has freckles all over. She'll be 30 in a few months. I'll be 61 in march.

Forget about the Bufbiker/Mrhtbd Challenge, could never go counter to a Hero like you. When can I get a Bufbiker T-Shirt, sized 3xl, (preferably in black)?
