I always buy american. I have a chevy, a ford and a harley sitting in my garage. I always try to buy american and I do look at where something is made before I decide whether I will buy it or not. Of course some things you're just stuck with buying imported goods.

Agreed, always drove Chevy's (sell Chevys) and try to buy American also, but it's getting harder and harder... There should be a tax cut for people who purchase American goods... Maybe then more of your larger companies would try to keep American goods in there stores... Does anymore remember Sam Walton??? He always keep American goods in his stores before he died... Vehicles with the first number being (1) one.. Shows that it was produced inside the U.S.A.

I'm not sure that fords and Chevys are any more american that Hondas or nissans today. They all buy parts from the same places, US and foreign, then assemble them here in America. What we used to call jap cars are now made in ohio, tn, al, and the Carolina's. sometimes these cars have more American content and labor than those fords and Chevys, and especially chryslers.

I knew someone would say that. And it's true.
But I still love my American manufactured, Millwaukee assembled, Harley Davidson Road King!

Agreed. I usually buy american but now it seems that foreign companies are coming here for import and tax breaks and the american companies are moving all their companies out of the country. Its sad.

IDK... I'm of the mind that companies who manufacture things cars know that quality is the one thing that will make or break them. And if you are looking for quality, USA labor is still proud of what it produces, and might be one of the places on earth where quality is a culture of its labor.

I agree with most of what was said above. The thing is, is that we have regulated our companies out of business. Many of the regulations are good but most are just a total waste of time and money and are actually made to force companies out of business. Chevy moved to China, Dodge sold out to Fiat and Ford's are built mostly of parts that were made in other countries. The most effective way for us to communicate with big corporations is with our dollars. That's about all I can say without breaking the board rules.

I think you are correct. I formed my opinion if cars by renting a lot if them in the course of my work. Very sadly, I found ford, GM and Chrysler products to be the bottom 3 if quality, engineering, features, and every other category. It saddens me. I'm sitting in a car wash right now in my new Nissan Altima SL, which I believe got me the most for my money. Made right down the road from where I work in TN.

Not just regulation but unionization has killed American car companies. Or maybe more correct would be mishandling of union funds by outside interests.

There is no doubt that unions were once good and instituted a lot of good practices for the work force. They also have out lasted their usefulness. Like history has shown, anytime you allow a few, power over the masses, corruption is soon to follow.
