Sucks, just got the news on Tuesday.
Five years of grad school in the past six years, to get this close to the money the certifications can bring,
to now have it stripped away when it is within view, and then to be left without a job AND stuck
with all the repayment of the loans.
It appears the moneychangers have done it again.
They got everybody paid but me.
Left holding the bill...just another debt slave.
They are so good at sticking it to the working man.
Thirty-five grand in the shoot. Damn.
I just told a friend last month, when he mentioned, "...but it will all be worth it.."
I said, "Yeah, I know, but I have a sneaking suspicion they will pull the bottom out before I ever get close to the money."
Sure enough, and unfortunately, but I was right.
Big whoop for being right.
I'm done on June 20, 2011.
At least I got a notice.
I need a workout!

Yes but I will lose my seniority and have to take a $20,000 pay cut, when, in another year and a half I could have made an additional $20K.
In fact, that's what prompted me to get the additional degree's.

It wasn't just me, though.
Phila Sckool Dick's are closing 18 skools and changing them to charter skool's etc, so all the teachers are to be fired. New management reserves the right to hire up to 50% of the faculty back into a skool, the rest have to move.

It is a shell game based on the Arn Duncan Chicago-style fire all and shift the money to friends system of higher education.

End result, students still dumbbed-down, teachers get shafted, friends of administration are "in-the-dough."

Moving on...nothing to see here.
Still needing that workout...or series thereof!

Man , thats some bullshit, whats your next plan for after june?

Man , thats some bullshit, whats your next plan for after june?

Well, there are at least 6 current options:
1) take a forced transfer to another sckool in the district=job but loss of seniority
2) In June, go on the bidding system for other jobs in the district=keep seniority, but competing with up to 1500 others in the same boat. Could end up with a very long commute, up in air
3) reapply to the management company getting the contract for our sckool (mispelling intentional) =up to 50% can be rehired, but can be very campy, depends on mgmt company and/or/whether current pincipal stays...politics.
4) look for a teaching job outside the district=low pay, travel
5) finish Principal Test and apply for a principal position=few and far between but possible
6) unemployment=least desirable

sorry to hear this... bad bad times we're in.... good luck! do whats best for you and your famiyl and stay strong

Sorry to hear. Join the boat. Lost my job of 22 years just over 1 year ago. Consider yourself lucky that you have the credentials to fall back on compared to many that don't even have a degree. ;) You'll be alright fosho my man. :)

The new principal is trying to railroad me out with an unsatisfactory. Out of 25 parameters with a number of 1 to 4 for each one, she gave me 23 "1's" and 2 "2's". A "1" is the worst. I sat last night from 10PM until 5AM and typed a 10 page, single-spaced rebuttal of all the bullshit she put into the form.
Fuck her! Send dat ho out wit' de trash!
They have finally figured a way to screw me.
Most suburban schools require your last observation as a condition of hire. This sucks, all that work to be torn down by fucking dumb-ass's.
Even if I get a suburban job, which would be great, I'll take a 20K paycut and will lose over $500,000 in 10 years.
Damn, there goes the retirement/kids college/ and/or any chance to breath other than being a debt slave until I'm dead.

Wait a minute...I'm getting an inspiration... "touch the world lightly and traverse the ways..."
Yeah, that's it, I must repackage myself.
Just remembered an appropriate WWI saying, "Dig deep, as sluggards sleep, and you'll have wheat to grow and wheat to eat."
It's time to get creative, besides, who am I kidding, this job sucks, the people I work with (mostly) suck, the students don't have enough skills to fill an Easter Basket.
Like a centaur, I must look far into the distance, set a new mark (this one higher and greater) and drive myself to accomplish it.
This is the way to heal and make myself whole.
There's no time to waste.

So they're trying to performance manage you out, don't take it personal bro its just a balance sheet but do fight your corner if you feel you should

Yeah and it's not just me, several other white teachers as well.
Oh, I went on Drmath.com (a Drexel Univ math site, and queried what the probability would be to get 23 "1's" and 2 "2's" out of 25 parameters with the possibility ranging from 1, 2, 3, or 4 for each.

(That's what she gave me on my evaluation. A "1" is the worst rating)
Here's the results:
one in 1,1 quadrillion
(1/1,125,899,906,842,624)

Those are the odds of getting the results I did on the Teacher Observation Form.

So, is it relevant?

"All in your mind, Glass-hoppa!"

Fuck it, tomorrow is a sick day! Screw them!

Sorry to read your plight, stay strong, fight the power, and stick it to the man.

And thats what sick days are for, when your pissed off, not when your sick.

When life deals you lemons, make lemonade! You're not alone. Someone is blessed in these times to have a job that pays well. And even much fewer are blessed to have a job that they LIKE! Good luck going forward brutha.

Spent three yeaars of college studying French, should have studied Spanish!

Good thing obama has a stellar bailout plan - taxpayer money will be useless for you now....

.... oh wait.

sorry to hear....technically you got laid off.....to me being fired is doing something to warrant the loss of your job.....you didn't deserve it....

I just found out that over 55% of the teachers in the district have less than 5 years experience, so, with 9 years experience the chances of me getting laid off are greatly reduced. A small plus for sure.
