Went there for 2 weeks to check it out. Been researching it the past year, learning, doing my homework. Reason why is the price of living there is MUCH less than USA. I had 22 years in with my last job when they closed the doors. I qualify for retirement salary which I can file for in Jan of 2010. Being its only 22 years worth of retirement salary, its not enuff to survive here in the USA... I would have to find another job to survive. However, in Phil's, it IS enuff to survive on. Sooooo, we will see what happens.
It was truly an awakening experience for me...people here in USA do NOT realize what "poor" is until you visit Phil's or any other country thats deep in poverty. I come back here and realize HOW blessed we are to have electric, running water, toilets that flush, air conditioning, etc etc etc. I truly am humbled by the experience.
I also met a sweet, very kind girl that I have chatted several times over the course of the past year. Her aunt invited me to stay at her other vacant apartment while I was there, so I did...TRULY experiencing how they live there. I had no aircon, only a fan...sweated my ass off.lol Slept on a 3 inch thick foam-pad on the floor, thats typical there. Only the rich have real beds with mattress's and box springs. Toilet not flush...pour bucket of water in after you do your thing to flush it. No refrigerator, no hot water, no shower. Pour water on yourself to take bath. Ate traditional filipino food every day that they cooked etc etc etc. Got ate up by mosquitos.lol
Its living at its simplest, the people are very kind compared to people in the USA. Most have a smile on their face even though very poor. They are MUCH less stressed and laid back than we are here in the USA. When I was there, I felt like a movie star or alien from Jupiter, as all people staring as they are not used to seeing a white dude there with muscles.lol I stayed in a very remote place...not like I was in Manila or a big city thats used to seeing white people always.
