It seems like he is pretty much out of harm's way with the job he has. I am grateful for that even though there has been an increase in Al Qaeda activity in Mosul "cleansing" out the Christians.
It's sad to hear his description about the barefoot hungry and thirsty kids. God Bless America and our lifestyle.

Hey mom!
Sorry I havent written in a while, i've been workin on dumb stuff, and reading my books for my next two classes. I'm starting Government 1 and Intro to Microsoft Word in a few days. As far as anything goin on in Mosul.. They're so far away, that we're not allowed to even drive there. Our little base has been hit twice in the past 18 months.. and those hits didnt do anything, TO anything, and were long before we got here!
I almost flew to Kirkuk yesterday to inspect the 'gadgets' of some new trucks, but i got replaced, since whether i look at it here, or there. if something's messed up, i'd just be able to tell them to order it (haha, i'll call lauren, and tell her to order my parts!) so i didnt fly to kirkuk. the ppl that did actually had to fly via blackhawk to tikrit (saddam's hometown) and then from tikrit to kirkuk. but i'm still up here in tal afar.
not sure if i told ya'll, but i actually went on a mission into the city the other day. It looks just like it does on tv. dirty, trash everywhere, stinks, kids and dogs running around barefoot, yelling at us to give them food and water. (we cant unless that's our actual mission, if we did, then a crowd would start developing around our trucks, and that's a big target for a suicide vest. so we dont do that, we let other people take care of that! we had to protect our surgeon as he went to some medical conference with some guy from the state department to help iraqi doctors get quality medical practice information so they can better help take care of their own.
i know the whole presidential debate and the economy are over-shadowing everything else, but i will say that things are looking like this war in iraq could start to wrap up in the next year or two. they're taking control of their own country, and the iraqi police and army are EVERYWHERE outside the gate. As soon as they can fully take care of themselves, and do what they gotta do, we're gone!
well, that's the update, i'll try to email some newer pictures. we had a thunderstorm last night (weird, i know) and its nice and chilly outside, so i'm gonna go wander on down to work.
