A Letter to All Who Voted for George W. Bush from Michael Moore

To All My Fellow Americans Who Voted for George W. Bush:

On this, the fourth anniversary of 9/11, I'm just curious, how does it feel?

How does it feel to know that the man you elected to lead us after we were attacked went ahead and put a guy in charge of FEMA whose main qualification was that he ran horse shows?

That's right. Horse shows.

I really want to know -- and I ask you this in all sincerity and with all due respect -- how do you feel about the utter contempt Mr. Bush has shown for your safety? C'mon, give me just a moment of honesty. Don't start ranting on about how this disaster in New Orleans was the fault of one of the poorest cities in America. Put aside your hatred of Democrats and liberals and anyone with the last name of Clinton. Just look me in the eye and tell me our President did the right thing after 9/11 by naming a horse show runner as the top man to protect us in case of an emergency or catastrophe.

I want you to put aside your self-affixed label of Republican/conservative/born-again/capitalist/ditto-head/right-winger and just talk to me as an American, on the common ground we both call America.

Are we safer now than before 9/11? When you learn that behind the horse show runner, the #2 and #3 men in charge of emergency preparedness have zero experience in emergency preparedness, do you think we are safer?

When you look at Michael Chertoff, the head of Homeland Security, a man with little experience in national security, do you feel secure?

When men who never served in the military and have never seen young men die in battle send our young people off to war, do you think they know how to conduct a war? Do they know what it means to have your legs blown off for a threat that was never there?

Do you really believe that turning over important government services to private corporations has resulted in better services for the people?

Why do you hate our federal government so much? You have voted for politicians for the past 25 years whose main goal has been to de-fund the federal government. Do you think that cutting federal programs like FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers has been good or bad for America? GOOD OR BAD?

With the nation's debt at an all-time high, do you think tax cuts for the rich are still a good idea? Will you give yours back so hundreds of thousands of homeless in New Orleans can have a home?

Do you believe in Jesus? Really? Didn't he say that we would be judged by how we treat the least among us? Hurricane Katrina came in and blew off the facade that we were a nation with liberty and justice for all. The wind howled and the water rose and what was revealed was that the poor in America shall be left to suffer and die while the President of the United States fiddles and tells them to eat cake.

That's not a joke. The day the hurricane hit and the levees broke, Mr. Bush, John McCain and their rich pals were stuffing themselves with cake. A full day after the levees broke (the same levees whose repair funding he had cut), Mr. Bush was playing a guitar some country singer gave him. All this while New Orleans sank under water.

It would take ANOTHER day before the President would do a flyover in his jumbo jet, peeking out the window at the misery 2500 feet below him as he flew back to his second home in DC. It would then be TWO MORE DAYS before a trickle of federal aid and troops would arrive. This was no seven minutes in a sitting trance while children read "My Pet Goat" to him. This was FOUR DAYS of doing nothing other than saying "Brownie (FEMA director Michael Brown), you're doing a heck of a job!"

My Republican friends, does it bother you that we are the laughing stock of the world?

And on this sacred day of remembrance, do you think we honor or shame those who died on 9/11/01? If we learned nothing and find ourselves today every bit as vulnerable and unprepared as we were on that bright sunny morning, then did the 3,000 die in vain?

Our vulnerability is not just about dealing with terrorists or natural disasters. We are vulnerable and unsafe because we allow one in eight Americans to live in horrible poverty. We accept an education system where one in six children never graduate and most of those who do can't string a coherent sentence together. The middle class can't pay the mortgage or the hospital bills and 45 million have no health coverage whatsoever.

Are we safe? Do you really feel safe? You can only move so far out and build so many gated communities before the fruit of what you've sown will be crashing through your walls and demanding retribution. Do you really want to wait until that happens? Or is it your hope that if they are left alone long enough to soil themselves and shoot themselves and drown in the filth that fills the street that maybe the problem will somehow go away?

I know you know better. You gave the country and the world a man who wasn't up for the job and all he does is hire people who aren't up for the job. You did this to us, to the world, to the people of New Orleans. Please fix it. Bush is yours. And you know, for our peace and safety and security, this has to be fixed. What do you propose?

I have an idea, and it isn't a horse show.

Yours,

Michael Moore

He always does have some truths in his points but peopel automacally take it out of context and shout liberal this or liberal that, but they never do give an credence to what the man writes up or acnkowledge any of it.

But I agree for the most part :)

First off, isn't Michael Moore a Canadian??? I agree Bush was wrong for appointing this guy to head FEMA but ALL politicians appoint their buddies to some position. All of them do it. It's not right, a qualified person should do it, but again, that's politics across the board.

What is FEMA supposed to protect us from??? The hurricane? FEMA was created to respond to natural disasters and national emergencies. The first reponders are always the city, state and then the federal gov't. Sorta like a chain of command. The city of New Orleans has a evacuation plan. It always has. The mayor did not follow it. The governor of Louisiana, who even admitted she was wrong for hesitating, wrong for not activating the national guard, wrong in so many ways, broke down on national television and cried. And here comes fat fucking Michael Moore to blame Bush for their inept leadership. Shit is supposed to run down hill, not up it. Is Bush supposed to be Kresken and be able to forsee the future. If I remember it was Bush on the Saturday night before the hurricane hit urging the people of New Orleans to get out of the city.

How many of our presidents who have not served in the military, sent our men and women into battle? Wilson(WWI), Franklin Roosevelt(WWII), Truman(Korea), Johnson(Vietnam) so what point is Moore trying to make?

I hate to break it to everyone but there has always been poor people. Yep, it's true. And no matter what Moore preaches it's never going to change. It's funny though how the city of New orleans has been under the ruling thumb of the democratic party for a long long time and it's one of America's poorest cities. Hell, it should be a shining gem if you listen to a democrat. Sure, all those great social programs and gov't handouts that make people really just run out and find a job. Why get a job when you can sit home and get a check from the gov't for doing nothing? When it comes down to it, if the poor want out, there are so many ways it's sickening. From student grants, job training, child care, loans, health care there is no reason a person has to be poor. They just got to help themselves. Remember, God helps those who help themselves.

Fuck Michael Moore. He is one of the biggest profiteers of peoples ignorance, next to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

I do def agree about your statement that M. moore and jesse kackson are in the same category. They are both ignorant fools who love to stir up shit. I am surprised either has lived so long.

They benefit from 'stiring up shit'. That's how they make their living. Do you really think they care about the average joe?

Listen, I believe Bush has made mistakes. What president hasn't? What president do you know that has gone through as much shit as he has? 9/11, two wars, taking office during a recession, several natural disasters, space shuttle blowing up... and people want to give him shit?

There was another thread on here about the First Lady being stupid because she mispronounced 'Katrina' or something. I don't know about you but I think public speaking has got to be the hardest thing in the world to do. I took a communications course in college and I had the hardest time reading a speach from note cards and that all I had to do. I couldn't imagine being asked questions, expected to answer them on a dime, and having to watch what I said in fear of the media twisting it around so that people like some that chimed in on that thread can call me stupid or some other bullshit. Cut the woman some slack.

It is so fuckin' easy to be a arm chair quarterback.

I'm not a big fan of Bush, I'm not really a big fan of any politician...just because I have my own beliefs and I'll agree on some fronts but disagree on others.

From what I can see, it doesn't really matter who is running the show. The show is really run by those who finance the campaigns of our politicians...I'm not talking about your measely $100 contribution, or your wealthy uncles $10,000...I'm talking about companies that pump millions and millions of dollars into the politicians...the guys who are playing Golf with the President...

Once the politician gets elected, said companies own their ass. While some people are getting pissed off about some bullshit on the news like Terry Schiavo or that Runaway Bride bitch...our legislators are in session making shit happen to hook up these big companies even more!

As for Michael Moore...I disagree with some of his material, I agree with some of his other stuff. As a whole, I think the guy is an asshole, mainly because of his presentation.

You are forgetting FOXNEWS and Rush Limbaugh.

I think he is an ass as well but that doesnt mean the message of what he says isnt true.

Not to get too philisophical--but truth is a very abstract concept, especially when we begin to talk about politics. You can take something that is 100% true and pure, put your own spin on it and present it in an untrue or misleading way.

Michael Moore is in the business of telling half truth's and not accurately telling the whole story. He puts his own spin on things to make his point look legitimate. I like how he was preaching that Bush and Cheney were benefiting from the war. But wasn't he benefiting from it by coming out with that movie and making millions of dollars? If he so worried about the victims of Katrina why doesn't that slob push himself from the slop that he pushes and donate some of those big bucks? You know why? He's a Hollywood elitest with a microphone that thinks the whole world cares about his bullshit opinions. He doesn't need to donate. He thinks the Federal gov't should hold the hand of every U.S. citizen and do everything for them. When a gov't does everything for it's citizens, dictates every move that its citizen's should make, doesn't that sound a tad like socialism? Yeah, that Michael Moore is some kinda guy. I'm glad to see that a Canadian is so worried about us Americans.

FoxNews and the rest of the news networks are all about sensationalism and it sucks. Too much of their opinions and not enough reporting what is accurate. They live on speculation and the American public, a lot of times, is dooped into believing the hype. It's sad.

Rush Limbaugh... I couldn't stand the guy when Clinton first took office but listening to him has opened my eyes.

You can't tell me that CNN and MSNBC, CBS(Dan Rather) and ABC aren't the same way. Along with a lot of the news papers in this country too.

I agree with you, but that's what the entire political game is all about, regardless of who is playing. In my opinion, none of them can be trusted. It doesn't matter who is in office...they are merely figure heads for the guys behind the scenes who are REALLY running the show.

...that's how I look at it anyways.
