What's the population base in the area you want to open it? How many other gyms are there in that area? Good luck

We have 2 la fitness, 3 24hr, 1 lifetime fitness and 3 small personal gyms. Area population 219,349 in the area I live. I'm in the Greater West Houston which has a population of 1.5 million on the west side of H-town

Ive been to them and not a bad store, as long as the owner knows his shit, unlike other supp stores...the ones Ive been too, had pretty decent owners and are still in business....your population and gym base seems pretty good, but not sure of your competition.....but, me personally, I buy all my supps online...much cheaper...I dont go to supps stores anymore unless I just need a quick buy where online takes days to deliver..

Yeah I always thought it was funny seeing the 450 pound woman working at the local GNC trying to sell weight loss supplements.

Make sure you have a solid business plan in place before moving forward. Establish a relationship with local gyms and see about possibly working out a deal with them. Maybe they can sell some of your products in the gym, or offer members of a certain gym a discount on your products in exchange for ads being put up in the gym. Stuff like that

I was asked to leave a GNC a couple of years ago because I talked a young guy with kids out of buying 2-300$ worth of test booster crap and anti-estro stuff and buying 20$ worth of creatine instead. I told the guy look at him, the store clerk, and look at me. Who did he want to believe?
He asked me where the creatine was!
Clerk asked me to leave. I obliged.

be active with online sales and business...you'll have to pay your bills with your regulars and profit with additional sales...don't pay yourself except a pct instead of a wage or commission only

The owner can make or break the store. 30 years ago, I used to flirt with a gal that was manager of the closest GNC. She would special order NU-LIFE non-instantized Milk and Egg protein and sell me a case at just over cost. I remember buying ALL my supps there. Walking into the GNCs around me today, I feel like I stepped into Twilight Zone.

Like Karch, I buy most supps online, but recently a wholesale supp outlet opened about 3 miles from me and they give me the same price as DPS and other online discount stores.

But as for Max Muscle, that was where I went for most supps 6-10 years ago. Then that store closed due to escalating strip mall rental fees. They moved to a location 50 miles north of me. That MM was owned by 2 brothers and they were big muscular guys, not pro calibre, but light years ahead of GNC morons. I spent hours talking to those guys and they had great products. I like a lot of the Max Muscle supps and if you needed something special, they would get it in stock in about a week. I know that a lot of the local guys were upset when they closed down.

AS far as opening a franchise, it would depend on finding the RIGHT location...at the RIGHT rental fee and having a lawyer draw up an ironclad leasing arrangement. ;)

I managed my buddies for about 4 years and now he owns 2. Does really well but hires knowledgable people to work them. My son is now sponsored by Max Muscle for BMX racing, you will see him in the Max magazine soon
