Muscle cramps
Muscle cramps often occur after exertion or at night. Night cramps may be caused by inactivity, tobacco or low levels of calcium, magnesium or potassium. A hot bath before bedtime increases blood flow to the muscles and may help, as well as not smoking, exercising regularly and increasing foods rich in calcium, magnesium and potassium.

From In-human:

F, So far the jury is still out on this one, some say that its a cause of the CA+ being depleted in Sarcoplasmic when training, and other say its lack of all Electrolytes and water dehydration, same goes for muscle spasms, no definitive answer yet...

Besides the fact that your bones need calcium, Lack of calcium will also produce twitches on top of the cramps..Without the right amounts of calcium and magnesium in your body, your muscles cannot contract nor relax....Lets not forget the most important muscle we have...our heart!

I take a liquid cal/mag product with glucosamine and chondroiton in it too...
its a 1200mg calcium with 600 magnesium...plus all the trace and ultra trace minerals needed to get it into you quicker...I get it from a company here in San Diego. kinda pricey, but I don't like to skimp when it comes to my health...

I have had cramping issues in the past, mainly when cutting up. Change in diet lead to less calcium and Magnesium and I was cramping every night. A regular Calcium/Mag combo (capsules), did the trick..

I think Heckman has said that using it before bed is best.

Yes, always take your calcium before bed....at night when your body goes into rest and repair is when the calcium will be most beneficial and get delivered to the areas that need it the most...
