My dog has to have surgery

Guys my dog has to have hip surgery Monday. He has dysplasia and they are putting some metal brackets in there to make the hip stronger. He is a 1 year old Dutch Shepherd and he is my life guys. I dont care to tell you I have cried over that dog when I found out he had to have surgery. They say this will help him and in time he will be like new and live a better life. Is there anything I can do for him to help him heal faster and make that stronger. I will give him GH if that would help. I dont care what it would cost. I thought about maybe Deca so soothe the joint area in the hip. I am taking him out of town to the best specialist in the state. If you guys can think of anything I may try it to help him. I love that dog more then anything. He loves me so much he doesnt leave my side I couldnt imagine life without him or huim in pain. He loves to play and I hope after the surgery he can play pain free.
 
I hope so.. I would rather not give him the stuff but anything to help him heal so he can play again soon. I have him on the best food and best treats hell he eats better then we do
 
Like lifts said with the age he will probably recovery quick

A guy I know michael vicked his dog and it had the same surgery and healed perfectly fine.
 
I would give him nothing...he is young and should be as good as new....I love my dogs as well so I know how you feel....
 
Fred...don't worry my friend. Dogs usually come through surgery and heal at a faster rate with less complications than their human counterparts. I've been through many surgeries, one dog had a knee joint repaired, was running in 2 weeks; another had a torn achilles tendon. They attached 4 tiny aerospace steel threads to her bone and it took about 6 months before she was running like normal, but she had to regrow a completely new cartiligeneous structure to grow around the wires and form a more flexible tendon replacement. ;)
 
i know how you feel i love my dog with all my heart ask the vet hypothetically lol if any of that would help the process... another thing that will help is keeping his weight down cause most shepards have hip problems but usually later in life but if u keep their weight down and dont let them get to heavy it helps alot... how much does your dog weigh right now?
 
just to add unless hes over weight by alot dont diet him or over exercise him cause hes only a year hes still growing for another year
 
shepherds are one tone to displasia...I have raised shepherds for most my life...I know the pain...let me know how it went
 
even though he is all muscle its to heavy for his hip id say max keep him at 80 lbs
 
but if hes longer and taller then a avg shepard maybe he has to stay heavier for health but i knew a king shepard and the owner kept him around 80 lbs( and he looked very healthy) max and his hips stayed healthy until around 12 yearsold
 
but in the end ask the vet what weight would be best for his hip and so forth and do w/e the vet reccomends
 
i hope he came through well and is on his way to a full recovery :) i am the same way about my kids (2 little dogs) :p
