I have a nephew who is 5 years old. He was born with SMA and was told he wouldn't live past a year. It's basically a disease where one is paralyzed for their entire life from birth. My sister has fought long and hard to keep her son alive and has done a very good job doing so on her own.
Last week he became sick with pneumonia and has been fighting it ever since. My sister took him to Stanford Hospital in San Jose, CA on Monday where he has been since under treatment. My mom called me earlier this morning letting me know that my nephew almost died early last night. She also called me later on in the day to let me know that he has gotten better since, so that's a good sign.
I will say that in first hearing my sister say he's been sick for over a week, I've feared the worse for him. With him going to the hospital and almost dying, I felt even more scared for him and my sister, as I always seem to "sense" when these things will happen.
My nephew's name is Kaige. While I don't ask much from anyone here, if you would be so kind to send my sister a nice message on her MySpace page, I think that would help lift her spirits. She hasn't eaten nor gotten much sleep because of the critical condition her son is in.
I hope he turns out OK, I'd hate to see him go at a time like this, hell I'd hate to see him go at all...it just wouldn't be right. I'd appreciate any support you guys can give. Put away all your jokes and sarcasm and do me this one favor, I'd appreciate it.
I'll be sure to update everyone as to how he's doing once I hear more.
