When my father's sperm met my mother's egg they made a pact and that was that my first and second cells would be my traps. They have grown ever since. I try to be humble at the gym, considering my age, injuries, current shape and dreams forlorned, but one thing hasn't changed in over 35 years, that is, that whatever gym I've entered, from wherever it was, the same pattern emerges. This is what I humbly refer to as, "The Trapezius Syndrome." Upright rows, shrugs, lateral raises and more shrugs, never fails; like clockwork. Other lifters have always migrated to these exercises after I go through a few sets of whatever in the gym. Funny thing is, I don't specifically do anything for traps. I raise my coffee cup, Boom; trap pump, I reach for a towel off the rack, Boom; you guessed it, trap pump! I can honestly admit the main reason I started lifting weights in 1979 was to balance the rest of my muscularity with the size of my traps, but they just got bigger. They stand almost 5 high from my collar bones with my arms straight out. So I've decided to make them bigger, why not? W-h-y n-o-t? That's the cure for trapezius syndrome, what I call, "Trapezius Blitzcrieg!" I remember doing laterals with 65lb d-bells back in 2003, but stopped because I wanted to "isolate my delts!" Well, in the process of completing 40,000 reps by March 20th, I think a micro-goal has just arrived. Time to step up!
