New Legs

Legs have always been a sticking point for me.

My feet are dead flat and the shape of the foot is weird.

So the short of it is: it impeded squats, made proper form very difficult and in the end I quit paying attention to legs and made the mistake of focusing on upper body.

As you know, that throws the whole body out of whack and ultimately stops growth and preps for injury.

My Doc who takes great care of me finally had me come to his house for leg day. Been going since August first.

It is a killer. He has welded me into proper form in the squat. We do Giant sets...3 exercises of various squats back to back for 3 cycles. Not a alot of rest allowed between the sets...really none. Plus... the cadence is:
Down in the hole...up a quarter...back down...up 3/4 back down ...up= 1rep

We finish the day with hams.

Have puked several times...which he says is good because it spikes gh

Now here we are in Jan. and Im stronger and my quads are vastly improved. No more puking but it still hits me hard in every way.

I have been more cautious on other lift days and have even cut back from 5xs per week to just 3...back, chest legs...arms thrown in on back and chest day.

getting plenty of sleep and eats.

I feel that with such a ball buster leg day I still work hard on back and chest but with moderation.

Just felt I needed to bring the legs up to par and find I get close to being neurologically fried if I go too hard on the other days.

Seeing gains in all areas.

Advice anyone?

Our mutual friend told me about split squats and the full, 1/4, full, 3/4, up rep. I feel kind of girly doing them but they work. I can only manage about 4 reps and my legs are burning with small dumbbells in my hands. It doesn't help that I'm way too heavy right now at 290. Hard work with very little back stress. I then throw in leg extensions and curls after that. Then I do back. I feel pretty nauseous after all that but like the fact that my back is sore in a good way and not from squats or leg press messing it up.

No advice sorry. :)

Just checking this out with everyone.

The split squats are one of our exercises in the giant set. I am now strong enough to use dumbells for the first cycle but then Im toast and have to use only body weight for the other 2 hits. They are really hard.

That leg workout is brutal. And effective. So if you think the big big leg workout is taking away from other lifts, maybe just do it with them every other week. On off weeks do something less intense. Understandable cause that just about drains all the gas out of your tank for a few days. Close to an hour of quad supersets that would be plenty hard by themselves.

IDK. I had DOMS for 4 days after that, which never happens when I'm on a load of junk. I will do it every time I get the chance which is not every week.

But here is the kicker - did you notice how everyone in the room who had been there a while had killer legs? Case closed :)

Hitting those big muscles hard stimulates growth throughout your body. The big guys squat and deadlift.

Oh yes, I noticed

Been noticing since I started but now I actually have legs to show them.

You did great by the way. You were really strong.

He's great. Crazy- will bitch you out if your cycle is wrong same goes for diet and other crucials.

He's helped me so much because he has crafted my squat form. Even the best trainer could not do that because my body is irregular.

Since he's a sports med doc he has been able to counter the defects of my flat feet and other problems to where I can perform the squat correctly and reap the benefits.

These docs are out there. There's another one who goes to my gym...he would be great too.

Give it a search....guys like that are really invaluable.

Go to sports med. Be honest and tell them your gear line up> If they say bad boy, you're going to die or turn into a murderer, keep shopping.

Presuming of course you've been at this a while and you are past 25yrs old or at least in that vicinity.
