Its been a long road on the squat train, through many an injury and training gliches over the years.
My last BIG squat was 465x7 back in 1993, then I did 1x5x450 each week for 6 months after that.
All that squatting put stress on my elbow (holding the bar on my shoulder because my sloped traps wouldn't hold it up) so I stopped heavy squatting until 2003 when I got 330x1x30.
Ten years away from the squat rack can change a man; break him down, keep him small.
I knew I had to get back on that horse, and have here and there, but today, I can finally say to myself, "Hey, this is a positive step for progress!
Long story short, today I did a superset with squats and straight-leg deadlifts. Squat was 135x1x10, 185x1x10, but the real thing that was, and is, what makes me happy, is I got 8x10 with 225. Cool, very cool! Also was pushing it with 115x10x10 on the straight-leg deadlift.
Makes me laugh though, these 53 year-old wheels pushing 8x10 with 225. What the hell am I thinking of anyway?
I know what you're thinking, "Volume squats, Mrhtbd, what the hell is in your cool-aid!"
