Well as some of you know i have been consistently weight training since December -'05 so thats all of 06, 07 and now..08 so almost 3 years. I have put on prolly 20 lbs of natural muscle. I just turned 29 years old and i wanna keep putting on good lean mass, the debate i keep going through in my head is do I just bulk (good clean bulk) for a while like a few years...then worry about getting cut, or as i have been: bulk 6 mos, cut 3-4 months, maintain 3 months....problem is, I dont feel i've made any real lean muscle gains in the past year and a half doing that. I'll bulk for 6 months then cut it down...and i'm near the same weight as i was a year before....what do you guys think? i wanna be in my 30's and rock hard between 195-200 lbs around 10% bf, do i just say forget the tight abs for summer thing and just get big? I think im cutting off my bulking growth too soon by wanting to "get cut for summer" our family goes on vacation every spring so i wanna look good, but i think its hindering my growth. Time to get serious!!

You don't need sharp abs while trying to gain muscle, but to many guys use the term "bulk" as an excuse to get sloppy fat. I prefer to stay at least some what lean year around.

I agree, by bulk I do not mean get fat, i mean slowly put on clean muscle mass, while keeping bf % in check. heres an example I gained 26 lbs to then just lose 26 lbs when i cut, I feel I got nowhere, just got fat during the winter... diet wasn't too bad...but I didn't do cardio..

heres that pic of me bulking past winter 213 lbs

And this was after a 4 month cut 187 lbs:

This could be your natural peak. I remember Ricky Hatton's trainer saying that they couldn't get him any more than 145lbs for the Mayweather fight.

How do you train?

Dude 3 years aint shit...I say that in a GOOD way. You have ALOT of growing to do bigtime. Ioo many guys refer to bulking and cutting as a binary/either-or scenario which is wrong. You have too look at the situation in context...for example, for a bodybuilder who competes often it is more adept to use the bulking/off-season and cutting/showtime terminology in a conventional/cliche way. I cant count the mofos at the gym that compete so fucking often then look the same as they did 5 years ago.lol Don't get me wrong, I know thats not what you do, but I am just emphasizing a point...when you go on a traditional "cutter", you lose a shitload of strength to boot. Its common and natural to happen. You dont WANT that because when trying to build muscle size, that route is like taking 3 steps forward and 2 1/2 steps back. Fuck that. I tell those niggas all the time "quit doing 2-3 shows a year and take 2-3 years to fucking lift some heavy weight and GROW!". Don't take out of context what I'm saying...this Hamburger-Helper-eating-nigga is by no MEANS saying to get fat in the process...its a fine balance. You use the mirror as your gauge if you getting fat in the process...if ya don't like what ya see, gradually back off the cals a bit. If ya aint growing like ya want, gradually up the cals a bit. Shit even when I'm 280, my bf don't go over 13%. I would say as a "general gauge" I wouldn't get over 15% in the process if I were you.

I aint trying to write a book here, but this shits my gig. I been in the game 30 years and not to brag have gotten pretty fucking big myself for being natty 90% of those years to boot. In short, you wanna get bigger muscles you need to get stronger. I dont give a fuck what ANYBODY tells you. I dont mean stronger as in trying to do a max, I mean stronger for reps! I guarantee, if a dude is squatting 275 for 10 now, his legs are gonna be a shitload bigger when he works up to where he is squatting 405 for 10. Follow me? Its simple really, not rocket science. But the hardest part is " persistence"! The shit don't happen overnight cuz.

Trust me, at only 3 years at hitting the iron, you have PLENTY of growing to do brutha. You will surpass that goal of 200/10%...you will CRUSH that goal. ;) What you wanna do is stick to the basics...squats, leg presses, benches, inclines, dips, militaries, deads, bent rows, wide grip chins, skullcrushers, barbell curls should be the core of your game. Stay away from all the fancy machines and pussy ass cables and kick it HARD in the gym...not long, but HARD. Eat right and get rest and dont overtrain and you WILL grow brutha. ;)

HOLY NEWSPAPER ,BATMAN!!!!!

Did you go straight to bed after that one ,Old man?.:D

:wdown: just got wood

You look pretty good in the second picture. You don't look fit in the first picture where you are heavier. Your point may be around 195, stay lean and grow slow over the next 4-6 years and you may be able to get ripped around 195 or 200. Great work.
