I am currently in school in pursuit of a Mechanical Engineering Degree. LOL yeah, contrary to how i may be percieved, in reality im actually not an idiot--SUPRISE! haha...anyway, i have been doing fine in this field and its easy to me but i probably spend more time reading junk about physiology and nutrition than anything else...not for any other reason other than it just interests me. I was explaining a little bit to one of my cousins about nutrition one day with a slight bit of physiology involved in the subject and he suggested that i take Physiology and Nutrition instead of Mech. Engineering. He said that as interested as i was in the subjects and the fact that i surround myself with it all day, it would proabably be good for me because people are more successful doing what they "love" and not necessarily what they are "good" at. Does anyone know what opportunities there are with a degree in physiology and nutrition? Can u make a 6 digit income--is that likely? Would it be better if i Minored in this field and did it on the side and had a reg. job as a mechanical engineer?

please comment on this even if u dont have a very substantial answer...any opinions would be greatly appreciated! thanks guys!

can you do an internship or anything to get an idea of what really working in that field would be like? If you make a ton of cash but want to stick a gun in your mouth it's not worth it, but if you love what you do and are broke but happy then all is good.

Rocky, your education system is different from ours over here but, if I was in your shoes, I'd stick with the Mech Eng degree if it means you'd have a good job at the end of it then do the Phys & Nut at nights or distance learning. Over here, most degree courses are full time so it's hard to make money & learn at the same time. Of course, it can be done but it takes that little bit longer and, bening in full time employment, the course cost quite a bit if self funding.
I don't know that much about you, your living situation, etc, to be able to offer better advice but I will say one thing, there will soon be a massive demand for Nutritionalists as the western world gets fatter!
Where do you live, are you in a Gulf state? If so, most of the oil production & drilling companies hir post grad engineers onto their trainee engineer programs (starting salary for the company I work for is aound ?30k and goes up each year) and there's very good prospects in that.
How about Occupational Health, is that available to you? Health & Safety is big over here too but t is boring as shit!

Hope this helps, although it probably doesn't.

well im in AL, the money for schooling is not an issue and the time to go isnt either...im n school full time right now. i was just wondering which degree has the most potential profit and the likeliness of ahieving that potential profit. i was tossing around the idea of getting my mech eng degree and then gettin a minor in nutrition and being a nutritionalist on the side--if thats possible

i like the idea of the major in enginering and the minor in nutrition/physiology if it reasonablly possible.

do the mechanical engineering more profit and ur already in it and then afterwards if you want take classes in what your interested in, i myself loved my physiology classes and exercise physiology classes and nutrition as well achually but i just liked it for myself to know i dont really want a job in that feild and once i was done with all the classes that interested me i dropped out of college lol

lol yeah, thats prolly what i would do too! haha man i hate school...the hardest part to me was taking all the basics...u have to take 30hrs worth of classes just to be able to start taking classes that u are really there to take.
