There are various different ways one can monitor and evaluate progress. However more often than not their is a greater margarine of error while using tools like body fat clippers, tape measures, body fat scales and hand held testers. None will give you 100% accurate results, but some are more effective than others. Body fat scales as well as hand held, provide a number which should state your current body fat, most of the time, the number you will get will be way off. For someone that's trying to monitor progress, this method will just not cut it because it is very inconsistent. Too many variables come into play for this system of body fat testing to work. Taking measurements is an effect way to keep progress as long as they are taken by the same person, in the same manner. This would also apply to body fat clippers as well. One of the most effective ways I've used for quite some time now has been simply using a mirror or taking pictures. Given the fact that you won't lie to yourself, this provides the best method of evaluation. The mirror never lies nor do pictures. In the end, all these methods provide a base line for evaluation, but keep in mind that some are not as effective as others. Don't beat yourself up if your results show up way off....

for me the tape measure tells it all, when the waist stays the same and chest and arms go up, you are doing good. :)

some times when the waist shrinks, and the chest gets bigger and the arms thicken
the head will as well LOL

I use this methodology too. And it helps. As long as my pants fit right and my shirts start getting tighter up top, I'm smiling :) hehhe..

I say phuk the tapes and calipers. All they do is stress you out!
