I have a son at FOB Sykes in Tal Afar, Iraq. I have a daughter at Ft. Bliss that may be deployed to Afghanistan. I believe in the true cause. Freedom from tyranny. If not for us, the British and our allies, where would be today?

Thanks for posting this Scots.

I've been somewhat fortunate that I have only lost one friend since things kicked off properly in 2003. This is a time for reflection and to remember those not with us at Christmas, the link below is to the story of my mate who was killed in Iraq. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/5401928.stm
It's strange now being an ex soldier (not a civilian) I know how my folks felt when I was deployed, every time you hear on the news "Soldier killed in....." it's not a nice feeling.
Anyway guys, to all of you who have family or friends in harms way, hears to a quiet Christmas & New Year and that they all get home safely.

WOW Tears welled up for that. This is reality ppl they die so we can live. Shake a soldiers hand next time they walk by or you see them in passing. I do everytime and tell them Thanks for all that you have done!

Every time someone goes out of their way to shake my hand or.... not let me leave til they buy me a drink...i've even had a gentleman try and pay for a meal of mine when i was trying to pay....it means a lot when someone takes a minute to stop and thank you. There's a lot of inner branch feudes here and there..."oh we're army, oh we're air force, squids, coasties, Devil Dogs" and what have you...but in the end, there's a lot of sacrifices made by all and to be recognized/thanked or even smiled/waved at is always good feel and rekindles that sense of pride...It's great that the people of the country you sacrifice everything for give you a second of their time....If not that, there's always that one service member whose parents disowned him or he's got nobody and for him to be thanked will sometimes mean even more...Thank you gents for all your love and support :santa:
