I fucked my back up in 2000 squatting. I was on sick leave from work for 18 months bcoz of it. Seen chiros, orthos, ate percs, vics, ibuprofen, naproxens, muscle relaxers, etc. Then one day I seen a commercial on TV about an inversion system made by Teeter. I bought it - cost $349 at the time. It was THEE best thing to alleviate the pain. You can hang at any angle that you find comfortable as you work your way to going fully upside down. Only 10 minutes on that thing at night before I slept let me sleep pain free, when normally I would be tossing and turning all night trying to find that right "niche" to relieve the pain. It decompresses the spine so much that you will actually measure 1/2 to 1 inch taller after hanging on it for 15 minutes or so. My sciatica at the time was incapacitating, and inversion relieved the pressure of the sciatic nerve being pinched. I highly recommend it to anyone with said issues.
