Do any of you guys suffer from sciatica if so do you exercise it take medication or just rest, ive been in pain all week gettin a bit of relief from codiene and paracetamol but havent trained all week due to pain any ideas or cures gratefully recieved

Yeah Buddy!! It's no fun either!! Lucky for me, mine only hit once in a while but when it does it stinks, but where I have some pretty strong pain meds for my knee and back I don't have enough problems to stop me from training although it does hender me a little when it does hit..

Only once in a awhile does it flare up with me. I just take NSAIDS and rest.

I have had it several times, the NSAIDS help, but I have received the most relief from deep tissue massage. Find someone who can put an elbow on your periformus muscle. Much better after the first session, but will need about 3-4 sessions total.

I find that steroids help not prevent sciatica for me but make recovery time much quicker. NSAIDS don't do it for me as quickly.

I get this all the time. Stretching to get everything moved back tot he right place is working for me.

I get it often and it travels down to the heel of my foot. I use the foam roller on it and it does help, and also rest. I find that if I do the stepmill, it really aggravates it. Also, try to limit long periods of sitting, get up and walk around a bit.

Darkness and baby1 are spot on. the stretching is needed when you get the massage, and the roller is a form of massage

goin thru it now.trained back light last saturday, came home and took a nap on my girls bed-which i hate her matress-and woke up about 2hrs later and dropped to the floor.was on the couch till monday night.any movement sent my back into wicked gutwrenching spasms to the point of enuff pain to make my eyes well up.just starting to be able to walk now.bad enuff i had to work almost all week but only drove.shit sucks.took 2 skelaxins which seemed to help relax the muscles but i can't take anything stronger which may be narcotic cause...well i can't.sucks bein in pain with nothing but time to heal it.hope to get back to the gym this monday.was makin crazy progress then this shit happens...

I fucked my back up in 2000 squatting. I was on sick leave from work for 18 months bcoz of it. Seen chiros, orthos, ate percs, vics, ibuprofen, naproxens, muscle relaxers, etc. Then one day I seen a commercial on TV about an inversion system made by Teeter. I bought it - cost $349 at the time. It was THEE best thing to alleviate the pain. You can hang at any angle that you find comfortable as you work your way to going fully upside down. Only 10 minutes on that thing at night before I slept let me sleep pain free, when normally I would be tossing and turning all night trying to find that right "niche" to relieve the pain. It decompresses the spine so much that you will actually measure 1/2 to 1 inch taller after hanging on it for 15 minutes or so. My sciatica at the time was incapacitating, and inversion relieved the pressure of the sciatic nerve being pinched. I highly recommend it to anyone with said issues.

Several of the competitive PLers at my gym use this thing. They say now that they have it they cant live without it and still move the kind of weight they do at their advanced level. Santa may bring my ass one of these...

I agree with the deep tissue message works best for me, I did have it once and couldn't shake it and went and did acupuncture and I felt like I could dance when I came out of there! But there's still nothing like the wife and a deep, hard rub down..
