Hey Brother I didn't know you was a Sparky.. How long you been playing with Juice? Electricity that is.. ;-)
I couldn't even count the times I've installed one of those beer caves from the ground up, 1,000's of them.. But when it's small job like that they won't give me a sparky. I bid the whole Job..I get 2 apprentice and I make them put the walkin together except the roof I'll help with that and While I'm running the conduit for my wiring i'll get them to hang the evap coils and fit the pipe then I'll go behind them solder it together and start my vacumm. And while it's on pump i'll pull my wire,connect the fans and klixons and termination and light. Then break vacumm and Boom start the bitch and I'm done 3 days tops.. Easy money!! I wished all my work was that easy, Thats a good day most of the time I'm working on parallel system with compressor bigger than car engines with 6 to 8 of them pumping all on one 6" or 9" copper header. Really big shit like Walmart and Food city uses.. I like it the best since I've done it so long it's like second nature to me. And some of my large freezers in their wharehouse are amonia system by frick and they run of of 477v Big Juice.. It's a lot of fun for me..

Bout 8 years now. Just finished a new "state of the art quick shop". It has coolers inside of coolers. All the units sit on the roof an just the fans are in the the coolers. They're pretty simple I guesss, but it's gets cold when they gotta leave em on and I'm putting those jar lights in.

Ice machines that sit in the back of the store and push ice through a tube to the soda fountain.

It's a pretty cool setup compared to most places.

We're so busy right now and good help is really impossible to find anymore...

That's the way it is with us, Man we get so many people that take Refrigeration in school and think they can hire in at journeymans wages. Hell it's took me 20 years to make 30$ a hour and I be dam if these fuckers will be hired in for anything over 15$ or I pack my shit and go somewhere else I have offers daily lol everytime someone calls and pffers me a job they would give me another 1 or 2$ a hour to get me to stay.. Bad part is when you do hire someone in they dont know shit! If you don't have hands on you can't do the Job.. Period! Hell I'd rather hire a electrician than I would someone out of refrigeration school because the electrician already knows 90% of refrigeration since most of it's electical anyway.. 80% of it is just a set of NO or NC contacts..
 
I got my contractor license a couple years ago and have 1 employee I pay 25 an hour. It's just me and him and he's gold to me. I give him 35 hours guaranteed even if we screw off all week. Lately, it's been 50 hours or so a week.

My biggest problem is on bigger jobs, not getting paid on time. When I have so much money in wire and parts ya know.

Hell yes I know exactly what you mean about supply's and over head.. It can kill ya I tell you whats the one thing that broke me up.. I have a friend that's the supervisor over 38 subways here in the 2 states close to me and she approached me and ashat whk me if I knew anyone that would be a good refrigeration man he man named rick she had quit well come to find out it was this dude that had worked for us a few years ago and once I trained him he left that's when she asked me what I was doing I told her I was out on workmans comp so she offered me $50 a hour to run calls for her so I said hell yeah I'll do it! But what broke me up was the dam insurace I had to buy incase of loss of product, and carry workmans comp insurance on myself which is expensive as hell. Don't get me wrong I made a ton of money but they got worried about me being out on Comp and working too, But like I told her the reason I'm out is I can't climb the ladder from the ground to the roof 6 to 8 times per store and run 8 service calls per day thats about 60 trips from the ground to the roof and back and with my knees still screwed I couldn't do it, So right now until they get my shit fixed right I'm still drawing comp..

I hate ice machines. They are a pain to have to repair.
Installed a little Mitsubishi split system today. First one I've done. Very cool and easy to do, except running the conduit and copper.
 
Where I'm at, they're really strict on who does what. Damn inspectors won't let half as anything! Lol
 
That 45 day pay is bullshit that don't feed the bulldog!
Buff as far as Ice Machines goes bro the longer you do it the easier they get.. I've done them for over 20 years and I could fix one with my eyes closed but now some of the other guys at our company can't do one in a 8 hr day! And the hell of it is all ice machine companys have a tech support line that will talk you through fixing anything.. Our guys act like their to proud to call or their ashamed to call one.. Hell a lot of times that's how I learned..

That reminds me! I had this lighting control panel that was basically a bunch of contractors controlled by a computer and I couldn't get it to work right no matter what I had programmed. Finally I broke down and called the tech support(which turned out to be of Arabian dissent lol) and 10 minutes later we were working like clock work. Sonofabitch...

LOL See I knew those crazy bastards would come in good for something! Every Tech line I ever called was someone in America just a different state. Some act like know it alls but most were pretty cool, Shit they actually reading it off of a computer screen most of the time..
 
It's really great to read about men in America who have the balls to make a living in troubleshooting and installation of useful systems.
I was a jet engine mechanic in the Air Force for C-130 turboprops, and know full-well that tech school only prepares one to step in the door, not learn the job. My hat is off to you with respect.

My employer is a 65 year old bald head bastard that can't spell refrigeration controls much less wire one up and I do it with my eyes closed after 20 years but yet the fucker want to sit in the office and try to explain energy mgmt to me! Right before I got hurt I got smart ass with them and told them I could save them 15 to 20k a month on their light bill if they would let me start a energy mgmt team, They gave me 2 helper and in a store it took me 3 weeks to set the super heat on all the glass door freezer and re-programming how the computer (Danfoss) cycles the compressor and I programed the computers to shut the case lights off after midnight, And shut the ac off when the ambient temp outside was below 65 deg and use a damper to pull outside ambient air to cool the store and the first month I saved the test store $11,000 and 16k the second month. And after I fell and went out of work they hired a whole crew to do it took my fucking idea and I didn't get any of the credit! Sorry bastards! I should have got at least half of the money they saved!!!

Hell yeah Brother mines been broke for 15 years or so, lol... They just took advantage of me because they I won't half ass anything and take a lot of pride in my work.. Mrhtbd I agree I sure could use a lifes supply of Test.. lol..
