Squatting Rant..

If you are one of the idividuals I speak of in this thread, don't take offense. Use it in a positive way and correct it!

What is the deal with people squatting in the gyms these days? It's great to see people squatting, but when all they are doing is a modified calf raise (LMAO!), it's not going to help any. I can't help but think ego's come into play here big time, but if your loading up the bar with 225,315, 405 ex..and not even close to squatting low enough, your not impressing anyone or doing yourself any good. If anything you look like an idiot lol. With an exception of a few guys (maybe 2), I probably squat the most weight in my gym correctly. Shocking, I know lol. What gets me everytime is when you see a guy load up 405lbs on the bar and does what he thinks is a squat (1 to2inch drop), and then walks around like he owns the place lol. I am much more impressed with a guy that squats 225 correctly, then one that loads up 405 and does a modified calf raise lol. if your one of these guys, take off about half of the weight your doing. Learn how to do things right. Your not impressing anyone or doing yourself any good. Leave your ego at the door..
 
Buff, I see it on a daily basis, I never say a thing, then its funny when we are Squating or doing all Quad movements ass to grass then I get the guys who say your are going to hurt your kness, then I ask them well how are your knees, and they tell me they hurt, why because they Squat 1/4 or 1/2 way down, the IQs in the gym sometimes amazes me...
 
Make your stance wider than shoulders a bit, toes pointed out a bit, and Squat down in between your thighs, head up, chest out, shoulders back, as far down as you can go, oh and forget the weight, to squat all the way down, you will have to leave your ego in the parking lot, start very light...

don't use the box...it's for old men with cranky joints lol...man it's pick on G4E day today lol. J/K box squats have there place for sure. Run a google on box squat, I'm sure you'll be able to find them.
 
I wouldnt recommend a box. Too easy to want to actually sit on it and then you are compressing the spine more than it's already being compressed...not good.
 
lol, it builds explosive strength on a sticking point. For example, if you get stuck on the bottom of your squat, low box squats would help get your squat max up.

but yea people r set in their ways & im not gona go up 2 some 1 & tell them that their not goin down enough & that it looks like a great calf work out....

ive had 1 person ask me what the hell im doin, & he actually did go back & do them right....he was def hurtin the next day, he wasnt used 2 it....
