Two teenagers were charged yesterday with five counts of attempted murder for allegedly firing a revolver at the school bus they had just stepped off, Prince George's police said.
Wednesday's shooting stands out for its brazenness, but bus drivers and others said they are not surprised that school bus violence has risen to the boiling point.
The incident was a continuation of a punching and shoving fight that began on the bus after school, according to police. Two bullets hit the bus, but no one was hurt in the incident on the route serving Crossland High School in Temple Hills.
Arrested were Phillip Swann, 19, a 10th-grader at Crossland, and Lawrence Herbert, 17, who had withdrawn from the school, officials said. Police believe one or both of the teenagers brought the gun to the school and on the bus.
