Those Born 1930-1979!

TO ALL THE KIDS
WHO SURVIVED the
1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we
rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and

NO ONE actually died from this.< /FONT>

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank koolade made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because .

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING !

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day.

And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down
the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms.......
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,

made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang
the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.

They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned

HOW TO

DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them . . .CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as
kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives

for our own good

And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:

"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks,"Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

I just made the cut at 1978! and yep!! played outside all day... rode bikes ... fried ants! lol ate junk and was skinny as a rail! lol

i was born in 76 and man i loved ringing peoples doorbels then running,, sometimes lit a brown paper bag that was full of one of me or my friends shit after we rang the bell for more laughs watching then stomp on a bag on fire full of shit great laughs ,,, or just lighted a stink bomb and placed it between the outer door and the main door to the house before ringing the bell lol,,, god the good old days when you had fireworks being sold out of everyones car trunk instead of mayor bloomberg in ny sending police down to the southern states where fireworks are legal looking to track those rent a vans to bring them to ny,,,,
you know whats funny for those of us who live in america now,, its 100% dioffernt then it was 30 years ago,,, with all of our new laws and legislation cracking down on peoples lives,, there wil come a time when the american people will leave this country for say south america where they enjoy the freedoms we once had 30 years ago in america,,,,

Yeah 70's were good times for sure. I remember when some ppl still didn't have color tv, lol!

I remember when we didnt - and watching Walter Cronkite every night talking about Vietnam - I always thought war was normal

I remember that, and we didn't have color either. We had the tv with the dials and you had to try and get the frequency to watch ch 50 or 20 thats about all we could get other than 2,4,7, and 9.

i was born in 77....so i feel some of what you stated....i was gone all day long....hopped on the bike with my brother and a few friends and you did not see me until lunchtime(maybe) and dinner time...thats it.......came home with at least a skinned knee damn near every day......and its true...there were not to many fat kids frome what i remember.....i did not get the video game craze until i was like 8 or 9, but still prefered to jump my bike off a home made ramp me and my friends actually built with our own hands.....i never had a computer, not even in high school.....didn't really need one....i kind of grew up in the 80's and had a great child hood for the most part...besides having a new mommy and daddy every other year or so....dads been married 5 times, mom 3 times......oh good times...

I remember when nobody had the internet. One of the schools I went to got the first apple computers that came out that were basically all in DOS which had a big book full of DOS commands that you had to type in to get it to work, LOL. My grandpa used to paint EVERYTHING with lead paint, leave his front door open when he went out of town becuase the town was so safe, ect, ect. Things have changed. Methheads have ruined the world, lol.

School bans tag, other chase games
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/10/18/no.tag.ap/index.html

ATTLEBORO, Massachusetts (AP) -- Tag, you're out!

Officials at an elementary school south of Boston have banned kids from playing tag, touch football and any other unsupervised chase game during recess for fear they'll get hurt and hold the school liable.

Recess is "a time when accidents can happen," said Willett Elementary School Principal Gaylene Heppe, who approved the ban.

While there is no districtwide ban on contact sports during recess, local rules have been cropping up. Several school administrators around Attleboro, a city of about 45,000 residents, took aim at dodgeball a few years ago, saying it was exclusionary and dangerous.

Elementary schools in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Spokane, Washington, also recently banned tag during recess. A suburban Charleston, South Carolina, school outlawed all unsupervised contact sports.

"I think that it's unfortunate that kids' lives are micromanaged and there are social skills they'll never develop on their own," said Debbie Laferriere, who has two children at Willett, about 40 miles south of Boston. "Playing tag is just part of being a kid."

Another Willett parent, Celeste D'Elia, said her son feels safer because of the rule. "I've witnessed enough near collisions," she said.

you know what i miss most about growing up in the 70 and 80's,,, is the damn half pipe me and my friends built around the block from where we all lived,, cause there was some new multi million dollar houses going up there and the wood nails were free, they kept tearing the half pipe down and we kept rebuilding it every day after 5pm wen they got off of work lol

1977 for me baby! I remember once a month a "computer" bus would come to school for us to type the alphabet and do math problems on.. That was the coolest! :)
