Too much self pity in the world

There are so many working class people I noticed that have so much pity on themselves. Yes, we've all been there at one point in our life (don't try and say you haven't), feeling sorry for ourselves, but about what? We are a selfish society. Even our biggest struggles in life are nowhere near the struggles other people in this world endure everyday. It's in our nature to have self pity, but the more I look around wherever I go, I realize I have it pretty good. I'm even grateful for the hard times, because even though it might be tough, I'm alive, well, have friends, a family, food, a home, and I'm in a better position in life than many.

There are so many people out there who do not have these things, and never will. They will never experience life as we know it. The things we take for granted everyday could be gone in an instant. You won't have them forever, and one day you will die. You can't take it with you. So any time you start to feel sorry for yourself, take a minute to think about the people that have bigger burdens to bear. The people who don't know if they're going to survive another day because of the cards they were dealt.

I've found it to be very humbling, and it makes you realize your life's not so bad, because there are literally millions of people out there that would do almost anything to trade with you, but the opportunity never comes. These are the people that I feel sorry for. Just wanted to get that off my mind.

Good words. I'm not the best that I have been financially, but I look around and do see many others that are far worse off. I pretty much have all that I need to be comfortable and enjoy life.

Great post b52! What you say applies to many more than just the working class. It also applies to the rich and even many poor here in USA. My visit to the Philippines humbled the fuck outta me! Even the poor here in the USA is rich compared to most third-world countries. To have running water, electricity, 2-3 meals a day and for just one of those meals to actually include a meat/fish source - is a blessing bigtime. To have a solid house, unlike a small bamboo hutt that has many openings in it that allows mosquitos and other insects inside constantly - so much that you have to sleep with a "net" - is a blessing bigtime. To be able to go to the doctor for preventive measures - not only when you are so sick or injured that you are ready to die - is a blessing bigtime. Most here in USA don't have a clue of what poverty really is. I thank GOD for my blessings everyday.

Nice post B. I lost just about everything including my marriage when Ike hit. It was the hardest thing I had to deal with losing so much in a short period. It really changed my life and my outlook. Now as long as my bills are paid and my child support is on time I feel I'm a lucky man and have it all.
