I'm just gonna put this out there, over many years of training not always consistent I think I have a better balance phsycological hold on it than I used to.

I see many young guys now walking round with atitude all the time and its easy to blow them off as assholes, but in some instances I think this is mistakenly learn't and missplaced aggression.

Specifically I think when you train hard you need a certain anger and fright almost to get you that last couple reps or lift heavy.

These days I'm chilled out till I get half way through my set in the gym

I think Kai explains it well here

using the example of Ronnie Coleman;

This is what he refers;

I feel like I'm training how you refer - for example i did back yesterday and started out with some cable rows simply feeling everything out and squeezing blood into every area i could. Then hit T bar rows - by 4th set we were at 6-8 rep range, onto deadlifts - down to the 2-4 range . By the time im on to the deads im ready to fucking kill it or me if i fail.

I could never do that. You're missing out fosh. If you aren't full blast mentally before you do that set, then why even do it? I visualize that set before I even do it, and I'm full steam mentally when I unrack that bar, pick up that db, or whatever it be. Chilled in the gym? No dis, but fuck dat!lol :D

I in no way see a guy getting jacked up to do his set as attitude or misplaced aggression. I can say that my best lifts for reps in my life came when I was getting "jacked" for that set to come. Theres a purpose to it - to get the adrenaline going. Many can't do this on their own but need a good training partner to get them jacked. I've had some good ones and it helps alot. But when I'm solo, hell yeah I know my ass is gonna get another rep or 2 if I'm getting fired up for that ball busting set. The gym is no place for silence... its not church. :eek:

Now having said that, I think when you see people going OVERBOARD with it...screaming at the top of their lungs before every set is ridiculous. But using the vids of Coleman as example, I do that often before my last heavy set and have done so for years. I guarantee anyone that is "into" that set before they even do it will indeed knock out another rep or 2 fosho. I can't even imagine working out with a calm, relaxed dimeaonor omg.lol

re-posted above with with the original clip of kai greene speech!

Dawgpound Hank, thats what I'm talking about but the rage comes on those last couple reps when I'm fighting it, of course I'm jacked before but rage is something different

to many people mis read that though - intensity scares normal people - but it is what sets most of us vets apart - being able to get that rage under control and harness it over years of training while using it to our advantage every workout is what makes us unique

wont hear many words from me in the gym, i build it up inside me and hit that weight

Deacon, I love your quote brother. "insensitivity scares people." True, but this world is not an easy world. Many times insensitivity is whats needed. Thanks for the wisdom.
