Please join the staff of A-E in tribute to all veteran's past and present. And please say a prayer for all those great American men and women who are now in harm's way in service of this great nation.

I am a Veteran, since 1991, so how about giving me a break?
My brother's stepson is a Veteran, he was killed in Iraq, February 2007, his name was Luke, he was 21, and was a great kid. Fortuantely, he left a daughter.
My father was a Veteran and was shot twice during his 28 month stint in the South Pacific during WWII.
My father's three brother's were Veterans of the European Theater during WWII. His brother, Frederick, was killed in the Netherlands and is buried there.
My Grandfather was in the US Navy and is a Veteran of WWI.
My Great Grandfather was a Veteran of the Civil War (which was anything but civil).
They all volunteered, none were drafted.
My Great Great Great Grandfather was a Naval Veteran of the War of 1812. He was in the British Navy. Yes, he was English and the English do not have today marked for honor of their Veterans, but my ancestry is from there, and I am a fifth generation American on my father's side, and now I am a veteran (with 17 years service). Plus, I am using my extensive education and experience to help inner-city blacks as a high school teacher, so give me a break, and take a moment to appreciate the benefits you now have which you owe, in part, to the service and sacrifice of Veterans.
Peace!

I am Veteran also and so is Lift's, but I don't understand why you keep saying, "so give me a break".

My thoughts and prayers go out this day as well as about everyday to my buddies that are still serving and everyone past and present.

I believe that Mrhtbd meant that he should be able to express himself with his freedom of speech. We should all respect this.

I have a son in Iraq serving his country.

Let's honor and respect the soldiers who have put their lives on the line to preserve our freedoms.

I dont get the "so give me a break either".... we may be misunderstanding it Mrht....

I am also a vet..first gulf war and army vet for 8 yrs....i do know the pain of losing brothers, family and such...

this thread was to honor the vets...past and present...GOD bless them, their fellow brothers (men and women) and their familys...

and may our Government take better care of those that fought to keep our government....

Sorry, I don't like hyjacking threads or making them about me in general and especially so on one about veterans.
Since there are some questions here though, I will offer a very brief explaination:
I have been feeling like I have been under attack for the past week because of responses to some insensitive comments I made.
I'd like to put it behind me, so let's get back to honoring the veterans, as they are the ones protecting our freedoms by putting their asses on the line.

Oh you must be around my age then(37), I was in the Army stationed in Germany and was in the 2AD(fwd) I was an 11B infantry air assault and was in the Brigade LRRP's team when we were deployed to Iraq in Dec. 1990 and I was there til May 12, 1991, I will never forget that date cause my daughter was born exacly 1 month later on june 12, 1991. I ended up serving 7years and was an Sgt/E-5p when I got out in Sept of '96, oh I made my cutoff score for E-6 the month after i got out, I got out cause basically I was sick of the politics and was tired of being deployed constantly and never seeing my daughter, it is not the life for a family, at least not infantry, IMO..

Much respect to all Vets for all you do for us Americans.........We appreciate the sacrifice and risk that has been taken to keep us free........

bump for all the vets.... Much love and respect for all you do for our country.

The horses arses who run this country (UK) have bowed to public pressure to install a veterans' day to commemorate all the sacrifices that Uk personnel have made in the name of the government.
I too am a veteran, 6 years army service, 3 tours of Bosnia, joined up 3 years before GWI & got out 3 years before GWII.
Still have loads of good brothers still in, lost a few as well.
