This was just aired on CNN. It is not spam, BS or otherwise. I highly recommend the short read. For those of us that live in rural areas it is my opinion that Wal-Mart is no longer an option. Please read! For those of you that know me, I usually gloss over these things without a second thought. This however is too crappy for even me to overlook. Thanks.

Here was the letter I sent. Please feel free to plagiarize at will.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am watching a piece on CNN regarding a lawsuit Wal-Mart filed against Debbie Shank. Due to the brevity required by this form, please look it up if you do not know. I am a resident of Colville, WA. I spend roughly $500-700/mo at Wal-Mart between all of your products. A large portion of our community?s young people work there as do the adults. What kind of example is this? I will be ceasing all shopping at your stores, and actively encouraging others to do the same until you do right by not only this woman, but your customers and employees. The fact is further despicable due to the fact that she was a former employee. A $270 billion annual income hardly justifies this vile behavior regardless of policy. If anything, you should be the first ones to help this woman who worked for you because you have been fortunate enough to be this successful. Additionally, yes it is your policy, but luckily for you it IS your policy and not a legal regulation. You are blessed with the ability to make exceptions due to extraordinary circumstances BECAUSE it is your policy. You tout yourselves as community driven. Here is a newsflash; We are all Americans and without that community your company would not exist, nor would have its founder. He would be ashamed as am I that a company of your breadth and influence (greater than most 3rd world countries let alone corporations) would set the example that overly excessive greed is more important than American community, human life, your employees and basic decency.

Respectfully,
XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXX

Ps- if you do remedy this, please also look into helping the poor elderly greeters whom are utterly baffled as to how to use your new return scanners. No clue, none? :( Plus then you have to wait in another line after brain frying a poor old man trying to make a buck. They are nice folks please help them with training or better yet give them their stickers back. They are sad without them.

Here is the address to send to:

There canned response to my letter:

Thank you for your message.

Dear Cruci,

When our associates, or their family members, suffer injuries or medical conditions which are the responsibility of others, our plan steps in to pay covered medical expenses so the associate and their families don't have to worry about their bills or have large out-of-pocket expenses. It is only after the associate or their family member receives a monetary payment from the responsible party, that our health plan becomes entitled to reimbursement.

While the Shanks case involves a tragic situation, our responsibility is to follow the provisions of the plan which governs the health benefits of our associates. These plans are funded by associate premiums and company contributions. Any money recovered is returned to the health plan, not to the business. This is done out of fairness to everyone who contributes and benefits from the plan. The Supreme Court's denial of the Shank appeal concludes all litigation. The Court ruled that the benefit plan was entitled to the funds in the trust account, which was about $280,000, which is all it requested.

Thank you,
Wal-Mart Customer Relations

My response:

That may be your rule, but apparently you people were not intelligent to realize that if something like this got into the hands of the media (like it just did) that people are going to get really pissed off and boycott your company, like I and numerous other people that I know are. Even if 1 out of every 1000 people that saw that news cast (and I am sure that the number is much higher) stop shopping at Wal Mart for even a week, your losses will be much more than 400K.You made 400 thousand, and lost millions, great business plan. Do you people write policies for George Bush too? They seem to be about as well thought out. I made sure to get word of this to everyone, and I am not even close to stopping. Enjoy your losses. I noticed that your stock is down today, I hope it stays that way.
