well one of my old friends IMed me for some lifting/diet advice. Well I was giving it to him and here are some questions/statements he said.

Why can't I lift on my bowflex 5times a week doing the same thing each day?
Why are you saying fast food is junk food?
Why should I try to get stronger? I don't want to get HUGE (as if it's that ez)
I wanna get ripped, should I do high reps? (how often do we hear this one)
You mean i'd have to diet all the time to stay ripped?
I don't want to get fat
I can't eat that much I will get fat
Should I take protein shakes on off days?
I think I should workout more than that
What do you mean I would have to lose body fat to get ripped?

Well there was a lot more than that. I was pretty much beating my head against the wall and just gave up. He was dead set that fast food wasn't junk food, and that he couldn't listen to me for advice b/c he doesn't want to get HUGE. I swear ppl act like it's easy to get big I just don't understand it. I mean if it was so easy wouldn't everybody be huge and ripped??

Anyway I just needed to vent as that was a painful conversation that didn't get me anywhere b/c I know he will not take a single bit of my advice.

LMAO, just tell your friend to get richard simmon's sweatin to the oldies and leave you alone.

Send him a few articles to read. "Basic Training for Beginners" from t-nation.com comes to mind. Also, anything by John Berardi is gold (www.johnberardi.com).

I know what you mean Matt. It's hard to explain it to people when they just don't wanna listen.

that's exactly it buff. It's like they don't believe me haha. I know I don't know everything, but I know enough to help out a friend haha

That is my favorite one too....."I don't want to get too big, just ripped". WTF!?!!?!?! For one I am not that big, for two, it has taken me 4 years to get where I am. They think in one summer of liftin they are gonna put on 30lbs of LBM. LMAO

I just give up and don't even try anymore.

Eveyone wants it, few want to do what it takes (or believe what it takes) to get it.

I think we've got the same friend. LOL

I think we all have that same friend..lol..

I have to say though, that I have become very good friends with someone from work. She's older than me and a nice bit overweight. I have been helping her out. She's not going to get into any heavy training or anything, but with my help on her diet, she's lost 22 lbs so far and a ton of inches. She joined Curves with my encouragement, and she feels better than she has in many years.

Does my heart good :)
