6%, 3%, you hear it all the time. If you walk into most gyms and asked what body fat % you where at the typical answer would be something along the lines of 6-3. This would be great if it was true, but last time I checked more then 50% of the country is over-weight. How do people come up with these number? This could probably be do to lack of knowledge. The bottom line is most of us will never have a 3% bf percentage unless you actually compete or are a genetic freak. This subject came to mind as I walked into the locker room in the gym. One of the regulars was talking to one of his buddies telling him he was around 11%. 11% being obtainable, but this guy was not close to his guestimation. This person basically looked like your average Joe that's been training for a while but still has a nice set of love handles. My guess from looking at him would be around 15%. He then went on and told his buddy that gets down to 3% for the summer
. Keep in mind I've seen this guy for years, and he's never been anywhere near 3%. I felt sorry to burst his bubble, but I asked him how he came to that conclusion. He went on to tell me the trainer at the gym tested it for him on one of those electrical body fat testers. I explained to him how faulty those garbage testers are and he basically called me a bull Shittier. I asked him if he knows or as ever seen a picture of a competitive body builder. He said he's seen pictures. I asked him if he looked anything like that when he gets down to "3%". He said no. I smiled and told him, "that's what 3% looks like". he smirked and said, "guess not." lol. The moral to this story is to basically be honest to yourself. Before you tell people your 3% bf or anything remotely close to that, make sure you know what your talking about before you make an ass of yourself
If you don't look like this, you ain't around 3%.
