I was disappointed on Monday when I had to turn down a biology teaching job, at an awesome school, not far from my house, because it was only temporary, but I must have made an effect on the lady who called me. (She hires all the temps for the district.) I dropped some names and told her working at that school would be a dream job for me, "In fact," I told her, "seven years ago I spoke to a lady in your office about getting a job there, and she was kind enough to list all the things I would have to accomplish to get it." I referred to the lady by name, well guess what, she must have said something to her because the lady called me this morning at work, (she is The Head of Hiring for Permanent Teaching Positions for the school district). This high school has over 3000 students between 10th and 12th grade.
She asked,"Would you be interested in taking a special education (learning support) teaching job at the school teaching Biology?"
I responded, "Yes, but I saw that ad listed as a temp placement until June, and I have a full-time salaried position and a young family, so I can't do it."
Then she told me that, "Actually, it's a contractual position, and the teacher got promoted to administration, so it's open." "Here's the secret," she said, "we don't generally get many qualified applicants mid year, so we listed it as temporary to give us the option of replacing the person for next Fall, if they don't work out, but we would like you to interview with the Principal, because we like your qualifications and you're certified in Biology." "There is a chance that if they like you they will offer you a contract!"
Wow, I am so elated it's just crazy. Imagine working for seven years and ending up at the doorstep where you dreamed of for all that time, past all those demons, and to have the head of HR ok your interview with the Principal? Wow, I am nervous with excitement.
Then she told me, "We want this to happen rather quickly, so I would like to set up your interview for Monday, Jan 18th."
I said, "Yes, of course!" I hope I don't say anything stupid and fuck it up.
I am very excited and want to be organized and ready. I haven't interviewed for a job in almost six years, a little rusty.
Any tips would be welcome. My friend already suggested I smile a lot and avoid tangents. I'm going with it.
On their website the job is listed to begin the 25th of January.
My commute would be 10 minutes door-to-door instead of an hour-ten one way like at present.
Happy F-ing New Year!
