I am a Veteran, since 1991, so how about giving me a break?
My brother's stepson is a Veteran, he was killed in Iraq, February 2007, his name was Luke, he was 21, and was a great kid. Fortuantely, he left a daughter.
My father was a Veteran and was shot twice during his 28 month stint in the South Pacific during WWII.
My father's three brother's were Veterans of the European Theater during WWII. His brother, Frederick, was killed in the Netherlands and is buried there.
My Grandfather was in the US Navy and is a Veteran of WWI.
My Great Grandfather was a Veteran of the Civil War (which was anything but civil).
They all volunteered, none were drafted.
My Great Great Great Grandfather was a Naval Veteran of the War of 1812. He was in the British Navy. Yes, he was English and the English do not have today marked for honor of their Veterans, but my ancestry is from there, and I am a fifth generation American on my father's side, and now I am a veteran (with 17 years service). Plus, I am using my extensive education and experience to help inner-city blacks as a high school teacher, so give me a break, and take a moment to appreciate the benifits you now have which you owe, in part, to the service and sacrifice of Veterans.
Peace!
