Last night not sure exactly what caused it but I believe I strained both the front and back part of my deltoid. Its very painful in certain positions but perfectly fine in others. I iced it down for the first 24 hours and will use heat now. My question is trying to figure out the severity of it? Should I be using a sling? When I come across my body with my arm it is extremely painful but extending out only gives slight pain. Any type of pressure increases the pain. When I massage it I can basically feel the muscles or ligaments soreness. Any feedback you fellas can give on proper care and diagnosis I would appreciate it. Thanks

Did you go heavier than normal or struggle for a long time with a rep doing presses? My shoulders get like that sometimes, they pop alot too. Goes away after a few days for me.

That's what I was going ask. I tore my rear delt slightly one time. Shit sucked, it hurt on wide grip pulldowns(fine on narrow grip ones), pullups, military press and any kind of rear delt specific exercise. Everything else, it felt just fine. Been laid off from all those exercises for several months, just went back to wide grip pulldowns, now ready to give the rear delt lifts a go..............

Mine happened, though, due to my own stupidity. Was doing military press with no spotter and felt gung ho to squeeze out a couple extra reps, first one went fine, the second one I struggled and struggled with but finally the weight took over and twisted my arm down across my body and I heard a few lovely little snaps and said "FUUUUUUUCK". There was only 120 on the bar, so I felt both like a pussy and pissed cuz I fucked myself up again.

I def went heavier on shoulder press but it felt great... Did upright-rows with the same weight but was thinking that might be where it happened... I did not feel the pain till I did lateral raises... That is when I felt it and like a dumbass I kept going and bam i just felt something go wrong that is when I left. Didn't hear a pop or anything so I figured it was just a strain... The pain yesterday was like an 8 on a scale out of 10. Today its down to about a 6. So its getting better already. I hope I am not out for a month that would piss me off to no end. I am going to lift legs today and probably stay away from any excerise that puts any pressure on the shoulder for a while.

IMO, upright rows can be damaging to the shoulders due to the excessive internal rotation...especially with heavy weights.

first the knee now this shawty, be careful!!

I know I know, it really screws with my training!! I'm wreckless and sometimes I just don't know when to quit. I guess I'm not satisfied till I fail, or at least get close to it. LOL! Sometimes that gets me in trouble.

this is why we check our egos at the door!! alot of good that extra rep did, NOT!!

It's not about my ego, it's the fact that I think unless I fail that I did not own up to my true potential........and you hush, we'll see who's checking his ego at the door ;)

lol.. Shawty, train for longevity, your still so young and look at the list of injuries you have already. if you wanna do this sport for any period of time, your going to have to change your traning philosophy.

But heavy is soooooo much fun!

I get what you're saying though. I think actually having people to lift with again (who could actually spot me properly) would be a huuuuuuuge help!

But........so far from powerlifting and bb I've only gotten the sciatic nerve problem(several times), whatever the hell was wrong with my knees after the squat mishap, strained hammy (twice) and the torn delt.

The others (arthritis in both knees and hips, 2 torn hamstrings, sprained both ankles, my hips pop outta place.....dunno if I'm missing any here....), those were all from dance/gymnastics.

And the time I crushed the whole tip of my thumb, that was from work.....but doing the powerlifting meet 4 days later was all my idea and I faired pretty well. 300lb deadlift half thumbless, couldn't complain :D

Spotter is a necessity in this sport if going heavy, ESPECIALLY if you're going to failure! I must admit though, I love seeing people get pinned to the bench. Puts a big smile on my face lol.

AHA! Don't I know that..........but it put me in a huge bind when my old gym (run by my bro's father-in-law) lost their lease. So after that they started working out in the dude's garage, which I refused to do because he had this huge thing for me and I didn't want to have to kick his ass. (and by thing I mean on more than one occasion he came up behind me while I was doing pulldowns and tried to dry hump me with his LITTLE commando, and also offered to buy me a corvette if I'd move in with him.....ok, as much as I love vettes, uhhh NO!). So I didn't feel so compelled to lift in a dirty ass garage at his house considering my brother was quitting powerlifting with us altogether. That' s when I switched gyms to this one. And there's no such thing as a powerlifter (or bodybuilder for that matter) at this gym. A bunch of glove wearing fakes. I have never really been pinned under the bar, have, however, had to drop the weight off the end on more than one occasion. I USUALLY schedule my bench night when Brandon is there, he at least half ass knows what he's doing, and he's a hard worker too. He's never let me down, but I've not always got that luxury, and that's where I get screwed up, I still have that all or nothing mentality whether I have somebody there capable of helping me or not. Most times I can pretty much guess when I can't go no more before I actually fail, but sometimes it bites me in the ass. However, I NEVER use my gear when I have no attainable spotters (or retarded ones like the said spotter in my squat accident vid). That would be completely stupid, those suits have a mind of their own if you don't have complete control over it.
