Haven't posted much lately, needed a break.
Had to recharge the batteries, so to speak.
Been focusing on the family lately.
Also have been trying to get done with house projects, what I can get done while I still can do things with my arm and hand.
Besides my right forearm feeling like there was a spear shaft driven through it, and my right trap feeling like a fourth of July sparkler fizzling constantly, everything is fine.;)
I have come to terms the pain may never subside, or get better.
In fact, one of the leading hand specialists in the NE told me the pen went through all three muscles controlling my outer fingers on my right hand. This changed the dynamic whereby my tendons around my elbow are pulling differently (I suppose from the scar tissue) and my elbow clicks, misaligns, and throws off the support of my right hand. Constant fatigue, does 't lessen or go away.
So, on with what is on. Been trying to use my left hand more and more, but it's difficult.
Thank goodness I lifted weights for over 30 years, as that training has developed supportive muscles that now come into play.
On a positive note, I've kept off 40 of the 50 pounds I lost a year and a half ago.
I was 215 in Oct 2009, and have been around 220-225 since May 2010.
Biding my time, focusing on the now. I'm confident I'll get over my angst and start lifting again. Matter of time.
Meanwhile, line up them ducks!

You can't get surgery to remove the scar tissue? And who stabbed you with a pen?

You can't get surgery to remove the scar tissue? And who stabbed you with a pen?

A student in 12/09 threw a tantrum and tried to elbow me in the head as I was showing him his seat. I dropped my pen before responding with a block. The pen tip must've caught my shirt and when he elbowed me the elbow drove the pen into my right outer forearm. Then he picked up a desk/chair and tried to smash me in the head with it.

I raised my arms to block it, part of the desk hit the pen, and drove it into my forearm bone. It went through the three muscles of my forearm. I guided the chair down and saw him coming through with a left hook. I remember thinking, (as I pulled the pen out of my arm), and then said to myself, "Fuck it! We're on now!!" I threw the pen aside before blocking the punch and then I took him down using leverage and applying pressure to five pressure points.

I held him for over a minute so the cop could get the cuffs on him. I didn't realize it at the time, but when I pulled the pen out, blood started pouring out of my artery and was pooling up in the whole left by the pen. As I held him down for the officer, just as she got the handcuffs on, someone said, "Hey, someone's bleeding!"

I looked down and there was a pool of blood around his head. At first, I thought my thumb-nail must have pierced his juggler when I grabbed him by the throat. The blood was heavy, thick, and deep chrimson, which indicated an arterial wound. I followed the blood under his neck and leading to my arm. Upon turning my cuff, I noticed the lower part of my shirt was dripping blood. As I lifted my arm to look, I noticed blood gushing out. (Evidently, the pen had struck my radial artery). I covered the wound with my hand and applied pressure, then ran across the room to get some tissue. As I ran, the blood shot out from between my fingers, in over 6 inch spurts.
I grabbed a wad of tissue from the desk, then held it firmly against the wound. With the blood all across the room, I couldn't believe what just happened. As I held my left hand on my right arm, my arm began to shake, then I started feeling light-headed. I was fortunate enough to realize I was going into shock, so I treated myself for shock, so I wouldn't faint, by leaning over the desk and using my upper body weight to increase the pressure. At the same time, I held my head in line with my heart to ensure an adequate supply of oxygen to my brain.

I only got 2 stitches at the hospital, but it continued to bleed for 3 weeks. The kid pled guilty to felony assault. Big whoop!

The doc recommended not doing surgery, because as he said, "There were three muscles involved, and there is a high chance of actually getting more scar tissue," (then what he would cut out).

"You're going to have to live with it," he said. Very sober words indeed.

In the past 15 months, I've tried to come to terms with it, but it's difficult. It's my right fore-arm, and I'm right-handed. Everything I do antagonizes it, even just sitting there. It throbs while I sleep. Makes it difficult to forget. So I have restructured my priorities, and stepped up several house projects, so I could use the arm while it's still capable.

Can't say you guys didn't warn me. Several people on A-E have suggesting I leave that inner-city school for years now. Should've listened to them.

Damn bro sorry to hear that, its good knowing how resilient the human body is but its easy to forget how fragile we can be as well, wish u the best in ur recovery.

Surgery can cure the scar easily.
There are special kind of surgeries to do the things like that.
