With so many guys passing at such young ages how serious are you about your heart health liver health and kidney health? Is or quest for unnatural muscle going to be the death of us??

Look I'm no different than all of you. I just think its time to change. Hell in my fridge there is always redbulls in there just calling me. I just would hate to see all of us dropping cuz of stupidity

Im careful and monitored. I typically don't drink alcohol.
I do not smoke.

Starting later in life I think gives me an advantage in this regaurd. I always have tests done, I haven't stressed the heart or liver long term, and being older keeps me from falling into the young guy traps..... it's nice being old......

I do cardio -- not to lose weight (I'm 5ft7 and 139lbs) but because it's good for my heart. I don't eat fatty foods (hamburgers, fries). I have blood work every 3 months to check my cholesterol. I stopped using AAS 5 years ago. I don't drink and I don't smoke. But then again all that doesn't guarantee that my heart won't stop like SHINE's did.

I watch myself with proper nutrition and fairly frequent medical checkups. Is that enough? I don't know. But what I do know for fact is that on a percent basis more men and women who don't live our lifestyle and who have never used gear die at a greater rate and earlier age than we do. Think of the thousands who post on these boards which are all inter related and how few deaths in regard to those numbers we suffer each year.

Lifts, I agree. I had a serious illness last summer and was hospitalized because of it. For this illness normal time in hospital is 7-14 days which is unheard of in this day and age but as I said it was serious. I was out in less than 3 days and the med staff was wondering. Apparently my stack didn't get found out. I went to my doc and he told me two things: gear didn't cause it But the gear and my supercharged body got me out in record time.
That said my cycles have always been balanced and moderately dosed. So my tests always come back great. I feel great. Yes, I have some health problems but I would have them anyway and they would probably effect me more without "help"
In the middle stands virtue.

I agree with lifts.

Getting frequent lab work can go a long way in determining health status. I've been slacking on it the last few years, but before that, I would get them done 2-3 times per year. When I was going to college, I would get them for free at the Health Center.

Other testing like echo's and prostate checks can also help for many, especially as we age.

Keeping tabs on BP and staying hydrated is vital imo.

I think it's a crap shoot. 1/2 genetics and 1/2 life style. There are a lot of abusers from the 60s, 70s and 80s that are still alive. There is a problem with AAS. They are relatively safe but very addictive. Some will say they are not addictive but I have NEVER seen one guy that did just one cycle. Being on becomes your new normal and it feels a lot better than what you can recall as your natural self. So you stay on most of the time and the scale of use escalates. BP goes up, lipids go to hell and you stay there for a decade. Shit's gonna break.

I look at the guys that are still around or lived really long from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Look at guys like Bill Pearl, Larry Scott, Arnold, Franco, Louie, Dave Draper. Yeah Bill Pearl says he didn't use but that is BS. Draper had a heart attack but still around in his 70s working out. Arnold is 66, looks like shit but ran CA for 8 years smoking cigars like a chimney. What's worse? Smoking like a chimney and having the stress of one of the largest economies.. or taking a gram/w of Primo and 100 mg/d of D-dol on and off for 4 decades?? Larry Scott is 74 and looks great. Franco still around at 71. Louie still around at comic con every year probably still using on and off.

Then a gain some guys didn't do so well. Mike Mattarazo, Don Long etc.. these guys were serious abusers and never went off. Mike use to eat 3-5 lbs of red meat every day. Don looked purple most of the time he was hitting it so hard.

I think if you are ramping things to 4 grams a week and never coming off you better have some pretty strong genetics or it's probably going to end badly. If you are using moderately and have the discipline to come off periodically long enough to recover and like yourself both on and off then probably you will be OK given decent genetics.

These guys that did well mostly probably abused the fuck out of AAS but all of them went off and shrunk up for a while between abuse periods and most likely stopped or curtailed their use as they began to age.

Very good post. I think that we can stay on gear and remain healthy for decades, but we have to monitor bp, lipids and a host of other things. Also I would strongly suggest reasonable moderate doses with peroids of time dropping to just above TRT amounts of test. No doubt continous use of 4 grams per week could and most likely lead to problems in most of us. I believe moderation is the key to staying healthy. I agree with Glyco 100% when he says steroids are addictive. I believe that they exhibit a strong psychological hold on us. Hey for the vast majority of us, they make us feel better and a little invincible.

They are definately psychologically addicitng, even Duchaine admitted to this...lol.

I don't struggle with addiction, I love it. :D

You just have to monitor everything and know when enough is enough. My labs definitely change between TRT and blasts but mainly my HDL drops and my PSA bumps up slightly. I have had my creatinine come back slightly high even at TRT doses. The next test a couple of months later it drops. My liver enzymes go up a little even with NAC and ALA.

I live healthier today than I ever have. Is it good enough? IDK. All the males in my family die betw 55 and 65 of cancer. So I got probably 20 years left anyway and my life is 2/3 over. I dont use alot of gear and lots less than many of the people who posted in this thread, and I consider them fine too.

i love steroids. I hope my kidneys are still OK so I can bast through grams again, I am sick.

for me if given the choice to live until im 60 and built the way id like due to gear vs. living to say 80... I choose the first.

I definitely agree with this

Truthfully, I go to my doc for full workup minimum once a year, then a bonus if I get sent to a job the sends me for a physical too. I have good family genetics though seeing a lot of our brothers pass scares the shit out of me. And back to what Glyc said about addiction, he is so right. I cant touch a weight or even step into a gym unless I have juice in my system. Its either all or none for me and its a sick thing but true
