u have 12 golf balls all the same size, but 1 of them weighs either a lil more or a lil less than the other 11....usin a scale only 3xs, how do u figure out which ball is diffrent:sheep:

you don't, you take em all to the golf course and just play a 9 hole round with em, the one that weighs the most will fly the least.....lol

oh and I got abs, but they are not showing, I am sure you have abs too.......
ur even dumber then i thought ha

i have abs, somewhere, i gota find them

does this mean that the golf ball can weigh more or less? Like it doesn't matter or all you know is that one golf ball weighs more or less the others

yea the ball can weigh more or less....it doesnt matter

i think that the idear is that its not what weighs more or less but what weighs diffrent?

ok some 1 explain what he's talkin about & try not 2 use #s....i dont understand them thingys

ok first you put 6balls on each side of the scale(6x6) this =12:)
Then that will show you which side is heavier(the lower side)
Then you take those 6balls and split them up to 3 a side(3x3)
Then once again you take the 3balls from side that is heavier(the lower side)
You split that up to 1ball a side(1x1) if they weigh out = then it's the ball u didn't put on the scale. If one side goes lower that is your heavier ball

Well that's about enough ball talk for me

that doesn't work because you do'nt know if the odd ball is heavier or lighter.

the trick is to switch.

put four on each side. (first pass) if the scale is balanced, the odd ball is in the remaining four.

switch one from each side: if the scale remains unbalanced the same way, the odd ball is in the two that were not switched. (second pass) if the scale changes balance, the odd ball is one of the two that were switched. in either case, discard the other two.

change one of the balls for one of the discarded ones to find out if the odd ball is heavier or lighter (ie, if the scale balances, the ball switched off was the odd one and you can tell if it was heavier or lighter; if the scale does not balance, the remaining ball is the odd one and the scale will reveal if it's heavier or lighter than the ball used to compare).

let's assume in step one that the scales did not balance - that means that the odd ball is one of the eight on the scales (disregard the four remaining). switch three from each side (second pass). if the scales remained unbalanced the same way, then the odd ball is in the balls that were not switched. compare one side with one of the discarded balls to figure out which one it is. (third pass)

.... and that's as far as i can go without my brain overheating, lol.
