Melatonin is a hormone generated by the pineal gland in the brain as a mechanism for regulating sleep wake cycles. Some people use it to reset their biorhythms, like after transcontinemtal flights and such. We do make less of it as we grow older. It also tends to make people sleepy, so it can be used as a sleep aid. Don't take more than 3mg a day (before bedtime). It is also not regulated, so you can't be sure exactly what the purity is,so stick with well known manufacturers. I am not sure about mole production. Moles and freckles are concentrated areas of pigmentation-usually melanin-also increased by exposure to light. Interestingly, redheads have carotene in their skin instead of melanin (sometimes, not always) and that is why some of them burn and not tan . (Of course they have melanin, not as much)If you are going to be in the sun, use a sunscreen and reapply every 2 hours because sunscreen degrades within 2 hours-and that should prevent extra freckling, brownspots and new moles. Irregularly shaped moles, especially ones that continue to grow or bleed need to be evaluated.
