Are these worth replacing deads with or just to supplement them. They're not as hard on my unbellical hernia as the full deads are.

i actually prefer rack deads for bodybuilding purposes...i'm long torsoed and rack deads allow more work on my lats and traps versus full deads which give more to my lumbar and hips...

I prefer them too. I can pull more weight. I do incorporate both in one work out. 135 to 315 from the floor. Go into the rack just below the knee and start at 405 and go to 765 +.

I'm able to get more weight on the upper half of the move. More trap and middle back mass.

same here.altho i'm trying to get my floor deadlift numbers to go up i do use them when i'm at a stuck point to help me get past it.or depending what routine i'm running i'll use racks for heavier wght and higher rep work.doesn't knot up my lower back/hams like floor deads would at a higher rep range.

I do racks at the end of my back workout, great finisher. I haven't did reg. deads in years

I think you're right brotha...

What is the correct height to start em with? Knees, just above or just below?

I try to do it just right with the top of the bar at the bottom of my knee cap. Different racks will tweak this. At the main gym I can tweak the height by standing on rubber mats. I am not sure ho important it is.

The PLers at the gym swear they will never do another dead off the floor once they are done competing; it will be racks from hence forth for them they say.

i prefer racks over regular dead ilfts

and on a side note--get that hernia fixed! i had mine done 4 years ago make sure you get the mesh

I plan on the first of next year for the surgery. Just not ready to go under the knife yet.

My wife doesn't like it when I pull on her rack. They sag enough already at her age! But she's still got a nice rack. They are not heavy enough though for a good dead lift.

hahah...my kind of thinker. lol

I have never given these a go myself. After reading through this... I think I will go for it for some variation. Seems like it would be making a lot of noise in the gym though. I am not at a sissy gym and not a PW lifter gym either, but if I was dropping say 600lbs of metal on metal on a rack it's gonna be making all eyes turn on me. Not sure if I can deal with that kind of shit.

I just trained back tonight and finished with them, did 2 warm up sets and 1working set of 495X10 I do them last so I am already faded and I can get a good finish without having to pile on the weights. Strict form is very important when performing these. Like others the bar is just below my knee caps.

I've never tried rack deads...but after reading this much positive input, I will now. ;)

I gave them complete focus and they made my back pumped more than deads. The strain was still the same though. I think I'll just have to keep my deads/rack pulls at 315 and below this year. Gonna use a wrap and belt to keep my guts in too.

I've had both side operated on. Go with mesh and make for damns sure ya got somebody around the first couple of days after the surgery

I will use both, but stick to racks more often than not. If I do stiff legs (or my version) in the week, then I will do solely the racks. And just as the others stated, start just below the knee cap
