I always found this aspect of fighting fascinating... here is the basic synopsis of what a glass chin is about.
me, personally.. I would consider to have a so called "iron chin"
from even when I was a kid, I have fought numerous people that showed extreme frustration by not being able to put me down. I am talking heavy hitters that were used to laying out people in a punch or two.
I was a thin ripped character before I started bodybuilding... one thing I always had though was abnormal traps, before I ever touched a weight. I have been hit in the jaw and face with everything my opponent could muster, even if they outweighed me by 50+ lbs. and it hardly phased me physically at all, often giving me the advantage to come back with a flurry when they figured they finished business.
I dont say this to sound like a tough guy, in fact, I consider my punching power to be mediocre at best... and I dont fight fisticuffs anymore, I consider it a waste of time and even if you win, you typically end up hurting yourself in the process....
I only mention these things to emphasize the points made in this article... appears there is the debate between whether a "strong chin" relies on thick neck and trap muscles or merely "heart"... I consider myself to have both.
what do you all think? personally I would rather die than concede defeat, but I dont think that is what physically stopped me from ever being officially knocked out in my life.
the way I see it, its your genetics and the way you are muscled and your nerve anatomy... everyone knows that the sweet spot is the juncture of your jaw bone... but despite being hit there with tremendous force, it has never rattled me ever in my lifetime. sure you lose some in your time, but I have never gone lights out as many people have.
what say you? lets save the toughguy bravado and win loss records... I am just curious what people think about this "glass jaw" phenomenon.
