Well I just went to the doctor and had my tonsils checked out. For numerous reasons they are going to be removed. The main reason is that I sleep like SHIT. I snore like a buzzsaw, it was so bad that my now ex girlfriend would end up sleeping on the couch half the time she was here because she couldn't sleep in the same bed with me. And I never feel fully rested when I should be. Sleep Apnea can kill you in rare cases, but just being tired after 8 hours of sleep is annoying as hell.

They said the surgery takes about 15 minutes now with this newer technique (no more scalpel.) Just wondering who here has had it done and how long it took you to heal?

I was six years old when I got mine removed. I remember coming out of anesthesia and promptly puking up swallowed blood. LOL...........but that was back in the scalpel days.

I remember them putting a mask on my face and pumping in what my mother said was Ether. Didn't like the feeling of blacking out with breathing in that smelly stuff and was fighting them all the way.

I'm sure they use something that cauterizes as it cuts now.

They put my tonsils and adenoids in a jar with formaldehyde and I took it around the neighborhood to show all the old ladies.

still have mine for now. How does having your tonsils out help you sleep better? i didnt know they were related to sleep apnea

They can be, it depends on the situation. All of my symptoms combined led the doctors to believe that they should come out, as I have rather large tonsils. I get tonsil stones semi-regularly, although I am adamant about cleaning out my tonsils so that they are not too much of a problem (however they are a pain in the ass....er mouth.)

For patients who do not tolerate or fail non-surgical measures, surgical treatment to anatomically alter the airway is available. Several levels of obstruction may be addressed, including the nasal passage, throat (pharynx), base of tongue, and facial skeleton. Septoplasty and turbinate surgery may improve the nasal airway. Tonsillectomy and uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP or UP3) is available to address pharyngeal obstruction.

Common signs of obstructive sleep apnea include unexplained daytime sleepiness (check), restless sleep(check), and loud snoring (with periods of silence followed by gasps)(check). Less common symptoms are morning headaches; insomnia(check); trouble concentrating(check); mood changes such as irritability(check and double check lol), anxiety(check)and depression(check); forgetfulness(check); increased heart rate and/or blood pressure; decreased sex drive; unexplained weight gain; increased urination and/or nocturia; frequent heartburn or Gastroesophageal reflux disease; and heavy night sweats(check).

I am a symptom poster board for this shit. :D

I was five when I had mine removed along with adenoids. I was told not to engage in oral sex for a week.

My son just had his out at 6 years old with his adnoids.....Its just a lazer type of cutting....He had a rough time afterwards with pain and throwing up blood....I heard its much harder on older individuals, so i would prepare for a couple weeks of hell.....Good luck and stock up on jello and popsicles.....Dairy made it worse....good luck...

The tobacco stays in your lip and you spit it out. So I don't think that would be a problem. The doctor told me that one of the things that I need to make sure of is what I am drinking. Juices that are high in citric acid can cause a lot of problems apparently, so I gotta stay away from orange juice.

PM rippedfreak with questions, from what black7 says he gives his tonsils a pounding.
