I heard an old saying when I was in the Army......."Those that can't do, teach"
Personally, I think it's BS, if you have a skill or knowledge about something, what's wrong in letting others know it too?
I have heard this bullshit before as well. I was a carpentry/masonry specialist in the Army for 6 years, a Heavy Equipment Operator in the Air Force for 6 years, and a Jet Engine Mechanic (for C-130's) in the Air Force for 5 years. Try spending 3 weeks rebuilding a jet engine turbine by yourself and then say what I can't do.
I got tired of the dust, dirt, and grease, that's why I decided to get into teaching. I have an Associate Degree in Aerospace Propulsion, a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, and 2 Master of Education Degree's (Health and Physical Education and Elementary Education). I have completed 14 years of college.
Besides, I am related to bards in Ireland from pre-roman times, it is my nature and part of my heritage to teach.
Oh yeah, and I'd like to change that saying to, "Those who have learned can teach, those who haven't deserve to bust their hump like a dumbass!"
BTW: I teach in Pennsylvania.

Very cool, my buddy runs an ambulance corps in Birmingham, England.
I thought about EMT school after being a Beach Patrol Lifeguard but decided it is too messy. My hat's off to you!
