what do y'all do for abs? I used to do heavy squats & deads, which pretty much killed my core. Since I hurt my back, deads are not an option and I'm thinking about adding in some isolation moves for abs.

I like:

weighted crunches seated on an excersize ball (holding a dumbell above my shoulders)
weighted hanging leg lifts

thoughts?

I do leg lifts on a power tower and leg raises on the end of flat bench. 4 sets of as many as I can do.

Hanging straps are great. Do straight out and windmills. Roll outs with a bar are great. Cable crunches, but I do them lying on a bench and the cable attached to a low pulley.

I just do weighted incline sit ups during shoulder day, your abs get enough of a workout when you excercise other parts of your body.

isnt the phrase abs are made in the kitchen not the gym?

i do sit ups and leg raises

i like doing planks (forearms and toes, hands and toes/alternating hands, hands or feet on the ball, switching the ball between feet during the plank), leg raises off the end of a bench, leg raises on the ground (usually go several directions), weighted sit ups on the decline ab bench thing and weighted side deadlift type things.

I don't bother with exercise balls as they seem to make doing workouts easier, by the time i get far enough back to make it an effort to get back up i tend to roll over.

my abs don't show(very close) but they are nice and strong :)

I'm at the point now where they are starting to show and I want to develop them so they really pop. They're there and getting stronger. like I said I want them to really jump and I'm not a big fan of isolation moves, but can't/won't do deads anymore.

On a seperate note, since my hernia surgery I get BAD cramps on my lower left side when I strain my core. Ab isolation or heavy squats has me almost doubled over sometimes. Dr says it's scar tissue causing uneven contraction

Some basic and easy exercises for 6 pack abs are leg lifts, the plank, and the crunch,
For the six-pack abs, a person has not only strengthened their abs by performing exercises,
but also follow a diet and workout routine that help him to have a low body fat and help to visible abdominal muscles...

Hi 2Rhodesians,
Front squats with barbell, renegade dumbbell rows, hanging leg raises and side bridge are effective workouts for abs so make a set of these exercises for desired results. Besides workout do focs on your diet also and watch what you eat.

I do all kinda crunches, elbow to knee, window wipers, flutter kicks, hanging leg raises - usually between 150 and 300 reps.

I sit up out of bed and do a few getting up off the couch
seems to work good...lol

I do some cable crunches every now and then

posing...no direct ab work is really necessary for bodybuilding other than posing posing posing...abs get enough indirect work...now for oly lifting and powerlifting some functional ab strength exercises def should be done at beginning or end of each training
