How many times a week do you workout? How long are your workouts? How many breaks a year do you take?

Thank you JDUB.
I?m tired and have aches and pains but giving up lifting is no option because I would feel too guilty.

I work out every other day and then I do cardio on my off days.
2-2.5 hrs per workout.
No breaks.
I don’t talk to anyone at my gym.
They’re a buncha walking talking distractions I don’t need at the time.
I find a good mix of strength and endurance training has kept my b/f% the same as it was in my mid twenties.
Also, I focus more on reps than going heavy these days.

I go 3 days a week taking a day off between training days, 1 1/2 to 2 hours each day. I don't schedule any breaks throughout the year but I keep a good balance.

I've tried to take a week off over the last few years but I never make the whole week :D:

You?re a beast .....

I should probably take a day off between training days because the blood force trauma training is a 4 day routine.

I?m the same as far as the week off is concerned ... I need my daily dose of exercise or I feel too guilty.

I do a split routine, I have four separate workouts they last about one hour each. I workout 6-7 days every week rotating the workouts.

Not quite 50 but almost there...

I strength train 4-6 days/wk Two days heavy alternating two light and if I do another two its whatever I feel like doing and thats usually light.

On my two definite light days and one on my whatever days I do about 30-40 interval cardio sessions.

On the seventh day I just take it easy and try and do some active cardio...;just go for a walk of maybe hiking with wifey and pups.

For years I worked out 6 days a week...I did all upper body heavy but only one body part a day.

Chest
arms
shoulders
back
day off
repeat

I did 30 min of cardio after the weights...This worked for me great, I went to failure on the body part for that day, and by the time the repeat came around that body part had fully recovered...every one is different though. I have always had good legs and after 3 knee surgureys, I had to stop the leg days...I'm hoping to get back to that level again, but I'm taking it very slow..

I usually hit it 4 days a week - HIT hybrid, meaning HIT for the jist, but followed by some ending pump work per bdpt via 21's, triple drop set, 3 second peak contraction static holds, etc. 90% of the time I don't work out more than 2 days straight without taking a day. If I do, the 3rd workout usually suffers from CNS not being recovered. No planned layoffs other than when going on vacation for 7-10 days once or twice per year, OR if injured of course.

I do NO periodization, and kill the iron 100% when I am there, striving to set a PR on some exercise, every workout, be it 1 more rep, 5 more lbs, whateva. The reason I can get away with no deload time/periodization is bcoz I give the body enough rest time to recover weekly. As I mentioned in your other thread about this topic, I can't imagine just going to the gym for the mere sake of "getting it in". Many people do that, even though they feel tired/lethargic. To ME, that is pointless and counter-productive. If I feel tired or fatigued, I will simply take the day off, getting an extra rest day in, so when I DO hit it, I'm full of energy and ready to kill it. My motto has always been if I can't give 100%, my azz won't be going to the gym that day. :D

Gotta say it again MG, you GOTTA add in more rest days - you are killing yourself. Also why working out is feeling like a chore to you with no motivation. Try 2 on, 1 off, repeat, for awhile. I GUARANTEE you will feel better AND stronger from increased recovery chica. ;) :yesway:

4 day split - alot of powerlifting mixed with John Meadows bodybuilding - rarely take a break

5 days a week. Just over an hour lifting. Strange split that’s just mine with hams and quads split into different days with some light duplicate upper body work. Shoulders get hit 3x EW divided into chest/anterior delts, back/rear delts, and arms/medial delts. That’s really grown my shoulders.

If I’m in growth phase I lift heavier weights with lower reps to failure with high intensity in every set and rest 3 minutes between sets.

I prep phase I superset 3-4 excercises per muscle group in one giant set with no rest between exercises, and maybe 30 seconds between sets. Again high intensity balls out training just over an hour.

In the rare instance I do cardio it’s over and above weight training time.

Usually 5-6 days a week but 4 is the minimum number of times per week. Each one last 1.5-2 hours depending on what body part it is. I do a 4 day split.

I’m not quite 50 yet but close. Lately I have been doing Meso Sets I think they are called. I do one set of 16-20 reps then wait 10-15sec and do next set of 4-5 reps. Repeat the 10-15sec rest and 4-5 reps for a total of 5 sets (includes the first set of 16-20 reps). Makes my workouts super fast which is good because I work out before work during the busiest time in my gym in the morning (too crowded now). It also raises my heart rate really good like I’m doing HITT or DC but not as intense. I don’t do a lot of cardio but used this during my last cut and it worked really well. Gonna keep doing it even though I’m off my cut now to see how it does for growth. Seems to be working well so far. I know being sore isn’t supposed to be a good judgement of a good workout but it kinda does. And I definitely feeling sore the next day. I do a 4 day split. Biceps/hams, triceps/quads, back/rear delts, chest/front&side delts. I usually go 4 days on 3 days off but sometimes 5on, 2off.

more of an endurance guy, but i 3 strength / functional training days. the objective is work imbalances and weak areas. fuuuuuck me but my back just loves fuking with me when I'm do shit tons of pre hab.

At 56, I decided recently to go to 4 days a week. I have been doing 5, and even 6 before that for years. I feel I need more recovery these days. So 4 seems great physically. (Mentally trying to adjust). I never took time off in 44 years. I know, probably not good. My 4-training days are based around the big-4 (SQ, Bench, DL, OHP) and I hardly do any fluff (cables, light stuff, etc). Mainly heavy barbell training. Seems to be working. I'm feeling slightly less run-down and tired during the day like I was feeling.

Update
I have terrible invalidating back pain. The only thing I do is cardio: 2 hours a day.
I?m trying to get an appointment in a pain clinic ?

Being old sucks :(

This past summer I would do about 20 hrs/wk each strength and cardio training.

I’ve been focusing on lighter weights, fewer carbs and more cardio.
I have shoulder and back issues so my focus is more on endurance rather than size and strength.
I’m 6’0” tall and just dropped below 200 lbs for the first time since I did my my first cycle back in 2004.
I feel far less stress on my joints and lighter on my feet now.
There was a time when 235 lbs was normal for me but it’s just so much stress on the body after so many years I’ve become prediabetic and a lot of back problems.
And my dick works better when I’m not so heavy so there’s that, too.

Honestly, feel much healthier 53 years old at 197 than I ever did at 235.

MG, I havent trained upper body for about 9 or 10 months now due to blowing out one of my shoulders. We are old folks, even though i know youre still hotter than 99% of the 20 year olds around. But we have to listen to our bodies. I used to panic if i missed a work out. Id feel guilty, feel like i was shrinking, losing strength. Now im so old I dont care. I still look good. I feel better. I just dont sleep as well. Lol. Take as much time as you need off. You have a very solid foundation. And its nit going to disappear because you take more time off. Have fun. Save some cats. Get a dog! LOL. Love you girl.

Working out just 3 days a week for now.
Mostly full body sessions trying to get back a little conditioning after being down for over a year.
Would definitely like to get back to a solid 4 days with split workouts again soon. Trying to be disciplined and not rush back into things after several injuries.

I still go 5-6 days a week. I am limited with my back and my legs but the rest of me is killing it. I usually train for 60-90 minutes, My off day is whenever I feel like it. I don’t set a scheduled day.

Right now I am cutting and I am down to 280 and got my abs back. My training is high volume and low weight and I don’t rest. I usually do 15 min of fasted low impact cardio and then move to the weights. Right now I am doing a crazy amount of reps with low weight and I am leaning out real nice. I got maybe 2-3 more weeks and then I will up my protein and calories again and put some heavy weights back on.

Most people think I am lifting heavy but they don’t have any idea what I used to lift so for me, it isn’t as heavy as it used to be.

I soon will hit 59 and go 3-4 days a week and keep total training time to 1 hour...that seems to work out quite well for me.

Referencing to Sammy Hagar , , ,
I can drive 55+. (age)
I'm still hitting it 5,6 days a week. Rarely train legs. Water in knee in which I need to address.
Off days are cardio and abs only. Most training sessions are 1.1/4 hrs basically.
Enthusiasm and drive is still there. But the desire to go late or go late from a long day from work isn't there. Smart rest days are more important to me now a days.

I am 71. Currently try to train with weights 4 to 5 days a week, rotating different body parts. Not doing legs much currently because of lower spine issues (I like squats but hate leg presses). I try to get cardio 4 to 5 days a week alsol.

I stopped working out arms directly months ago because of bicep tendinitis on inside of my elbow. Every time I try to do any bicep work it comes back but fortunately my arms haven’t shrunk at all. No pain when doing back. My split now is quads/abductors/adductors, hams calves, back then chest. 4-5 days a week. If I make it in that 5th day I do more legs. Cause they need the most work. No more than an hour per workout. Not doing those mio sets or whatever they were called. I do two warm up light sets. One heavy set to failure then one back off set to failure. I tried some deep pendulum squats a few weeks ago. My left knee has been fucked up since. Always popping now. I had never tried pendulum squats before. My knees don’t like them. At least not on the Arsenal machine. I didn’t even go heavy. Just deeper than usual. Trying new exercises to stimulate some leg growth. Sucks getting old. Haha

I just hired my first personal trainer and nutritional coach ever! I am super excited to see where I land. I’m back to doing heavier weights 5-6 days a week and just added in 3 metabolic conditioning session each week as well. i’m very excited to see where this goes...
